I need to vent. I started cleaning my step dads office again today. I used to do it every other Friday before the PE and I just started it back up today. I got there before his secretary left and she said well your clots are for sure gone by now. I was sitting down after I had been cleaning for a while because I had some chest pain. I said well I am only out about 10 weeks out and I don't think they are gone cause I still have severe chest pain. She quickly said well my mom had clots all the time and she just took coumadin and in a few weeks her clots were gone so yours were gone a long time ago. She was very rude and acted like I was making this all up. She had been complaining to my step dad that she had to be doing my work of cleaning while I was gone and that prompted my step dad to call Mayo clinic to find out about Pulmonary Embolisms because she had been telling him I should be perfectly fine by now. Mayo clinic did say exercise is good for me and that cleaning his office would be good so he said I needed to come back. I guess Mayo is right but she was like see I told you she was fine. Now my mom is even saying I should be fine by now and I shouldn't need pain pills anymore and that I must be addicted. I am going through hell and for sure need to call my hematologist to talk to him about all this. SO what do you all think? How long does it take for PE's to disintegrate? My family is not helping me and I need people that understand what I'm going through. Am I crazy for having chest pain still? Please help. Thanks

My doctors have all told me that the clots take at least 6 months to go away - you will have varying degrees of sob, energy etc depending on individual - but the clots themselves take at least that long. (And i will be on coumadin at least that long - maybe longer if they find out what caused them was genetic) I am told that all pe patients are on blood thinners at least this long.
Hang in there - and remember that YOU live in your body and ONLY YOU know how you feel!!!

I suffered a massive pulmonary embolism over 5 years ago. After a certain point, your body does not recognize the clots as "foreign" and stops trying to break them down. That is what happened in my case. I still have a number of clots that have been encapsulated with scar tissue. Consequently, I suffer from chronic right sided chest pain. I have learned to deal with it. But I too know what it is like to have family members not understand the ongoing pain. Just remember you are not alone and you are certainly not crazy...

Thank you everyone for your advice and comments. I love all the support I from this group. I do get some good support though from my siblings and my loving fiance!! My hematologists office called me back and they said my embolisms are probably still there and that is not unusual. They asked what caused me the most pain and I said cleaning my parents house and so forth and they said I should NOT be doing that. When I am in that much they said that my clots are at risk for breaking off and going somewhere else. They said it's a good sign that the percocet gets rid of my pain but I should not do anything that causes me more pain than my everyday normal pain. They said take it easy and allow my lungs to heal. I made an appointment to see him on July 10th. I feel so much better and surprisingly my parents didn't have much to say when I told them. They kinda cut the conversation short. I thought it was pretty funny. I wish I could call my step-dads secretary and tell her myself but I don't wanna start something. Thanks everyone!
