I am not a worrier and also not one to go to the Dr. unless it has been a few days and things haven;t gotten better or have gotten substantially worse.
So this is only day 2 of "something" going on with me but it is "something" enough that I have been cruising the 'net to figure out if I should go to the Dr. My pain is sort of right behind my left and seems to go all the way through to my shoulder blade. It hurts terribly if I try and breathe past a certain point but I don't notice that I am extra short of breath besides not being able to take in as much as usual. I think any lightheadedness or other pains are imagined as I am fearful that something might be wrong (I am very healthy - no history of any real problems). Certain movements (turning to look behind me when driving, pushing up to sitting fro laying) hurt enough that I release a little gasp/moan. However I can do a pushup or lift weights over my head so it doesn't seem to be a pulled muscle. I took 2 ibuprofin yesterday and it didn't change much for me. It did seem a bit better upon waking this AM but now that I have been up awhile it is intensifying again. Is this similar to what any of you have experienced or should I stop searching and worrying myself. Very foreign for me to worry so I am a bit distracted by it. Logically I know the answer is check with your doctor but I guess I want to feel like I have "something to go on" before I do. Thanks! Posted on 09/30/09, 10:09 am |

Hi, PE pain and symptoms are kind of different for everyone. Mine felt like pressure, like someone's hand was on my back. This wasn't constant. Some days I'd not feel anything at all. I also felt like my chest was tired and like I sighed a lot. I also would run out of breath when I talked. During that time, my resting heart rate was high too.
But some people experience sharp pain. Sometimes, it's in the back, and sometimes it's in the front. Chest and upper back pain can be a lot of things. I mean, it can even be GI related, ie acid reflux, gall bladder, etc. I think you should stop searching and just go to the doctor. The "something to go on" that you're looking for is the fact that you have pain. So, when you see your doctor, just be as specific about what you feel, when you feel it, etc. Let us know.

I totally agree with rmb, Stop searching and just go find out whats going on. Hopefully it's nothing but it could be just about anything. With my PE's I just plain couldn't breathe and didn't actually feel pain until after the fact. I just stayed in bed thinking oh its just the flu and its going to go away. i could have laid in that bed and died if it weren't for my hubby dragging me to the ER. I was a lot like you and refused to go to the Doctor unless ........well you know. Now however i don't run to the doctor for every ache and pain but I do go regularly for check ups and if something is constant. just makes sense.

I had what I can only describe as "twisting" sharp pains in my left chest, back and ribs, and couldn't lay on my left side. I was not short of breath. I had to sleep sitting up though, and even then the pain would wake me and I'd have to get up. It felt like it was muscle, rib, or something deeper all at the same time. It went away for a day, then came back to a lesser degree on my right side for a couple of days. I had cyber-dx'd myself with everything from pleuresy to lung cancer. Talk about stressin' out!
