Hi I need advice: last week at ER, nurse tried to take blood from my elbow area, couldn't and I ended up having a large bruise....it's been 6 days now and it's progressively gotten more tender and painful...now I have like a ring of red around the bruised area...what should I do? Any need for medical attention? Now I'm scared to go back.....

" What I've read about bruising is to watch for it to get bigger and blacker, that would indicate bleeding. Because of the red ring and increase pain though, I'd be concerned about possible infection. My vote is for you to go to the doctor.
After my trip to the ER, I had bruises that ran all the way up my arm from where they put in the port in my hand. It was some kind of ugly, and it took a long time to clear up, but there was no pain or redness. "

" Hemotomas can take a long time to resolve and they hurt, but I agree with LauraLu. The red ring would be more of a concern for me so I vote for calling your doc too. "

" I third that advice. Especially if that area seems warm. It sounds like you may have an infection.

Hope you feel better soon! "
