Hi everyone,

I really am not a drug pusher and I know this sounds wierd but I no longer need or take Diamox yet have a months supply. I have a little over 90 of the generic 500mg extended release orange pills that will eventually just be thrown out. For me I only paid a $15 copay and I know some pay much much more. Someone here once said they paid $900 a month for Diamox. That is rediculous and I would like to be able to help someone that pays so much. If anyone is interested I would be happy to give them away. Just ;let me know.

" Wow, $900 a month?? The healthcare system is a joke. I'm so glad I only had to pay $4 for my Diamox. "

" Hey TJ...good idea...I also have a month supply of 250 mg apo acetazolamide..i guess that is the generic name - there are around 360 pills, as she was taking them 3 pills 4 times a day.

If I can help anyone, I would be happy to.

" Not sure why the price would differ, maybe since yours is 500mg and extended release. But we just got my daugher's prescription filled for Acetazolamide 250 mg at Walgreen's and the retail price was $23.39. Since it is a generic drug we didn't have to pay that but even with no insurance a month's supply would of been $23.39. Hey I'm frugal and $23 is $23 but it is far from $900!! Thinking if the difference is because of the mg and extended release it may be in someone's best interest to ask for the regular 250mg ones and take them throughout the day. Just saying. "

" I recently filled my prescription for the acetazolamide 500mg sequels (my dr. for some reason is very specific about my being on this rather than the 250mg form) and I was told that all manufacturers in the area were out of generic so they had to send actual Diamoz and they wanted $425.36 for some reason. Of course, I am only 22 with a job in retail, I don't make a lot of money, so I was going to have to leave with no medicine. As soon as I said that, the pharmacist put in a code that took the price down to $50. But my insurance covers name brand, so I have no clue why they wanted over 400, and neither did they. It was weird. I hope I am weaned off soon. "

" Yes, Diamox and Topamax are extremely expensive for those who are unable to work and without health insurance like me. I am unable to get on Medicaid of NC just because I own my townhouse yet I am without a job since August and without health insurance since May 2009. I have contacted the drug companies for Diamox and Topamax for help. The drug company for Diamox - Wyeth does not have a program to help people with a medical problem, but Ortho - Topamax does have a program to help. However, their free program takes several weeks to get you started and then it is only 42 pills of 25 mg Topamax. At least it is something to help. I am supposed to be taking 2000 mg of Diamox per day and 200 mg Topamax per day, but I cannot afford to buy my prescriptions since I have been out of work and no health insurance.

I would be more than happy to receive "Free Diamox" from anyone willing to pass theirs to me. I don't know how I could ever repay anyone's generosity. "

" Firehawker,

I'm so sorry that things have to be so hard for you. Can you get Medicaid if you're on disability? Can you ask your doctor if you could get on disability because of PTC? I don't know how it works in other states, but in Ohio, if you're on disability, you automatically get on Medicaid. I wonder if that could be an option for you. "
