The AP (9/26) reported “Johnson & Johnson's Centocor Ortho Biotech unit said the Food and Drug Administration approved the drug Stelara as a treatment for severe plaque psoriasis. Plaque Psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis, which is a chronic skin condition with symptoms including inflamed red lesions that can cause pain. The injectable drug is also approved in the European Union, U.K., and Canada. The company has touted the benefit the drug can bring to psoriasis sufferers, as it can be administered less often than older drugs, with just five injections per year. Enbrel and Humira are generally injected once every week or two weeks, while Stelara is injected about every three months. The recommended posology of STELARA is an initial dose of 45 mg administered subcutaneously at week 0, followed by a 45 mg dose at week 4, then every 12 weeks thereafter.
Because it is a treatment for psoriasis it may be something you might want to ask your doctor about sometime in the future, or see if your insurance covers. The blue book price on the 45 MG VL 0.5 ML is 5,595.60 however, so you might have to wait for the novelty to wear off, and the price to come down. Here is an article from someone who wrote about it on the Psoriasis Blog: http://www.everydayhealth.com/blog... Posted on 10/24/09, 01:10 am |
