I had an outbreak of psoriasis 2 months ago.. and I still have it. I have never had such a bad outbreak until then. I went to the skin doctor and before she even looked at me she asked me if I was exposed to strep at all. I told her no, and then continued to tell me that I had it and this is how my body responded to it. She gave me spray and started me on light treatment. The only problem with the light treatment is that they charge you every time you go in for 40 seconds. Its just frustrating.. I used to have nice clear skin. I never had to wear cover up on my face. And now I feel like everyone is looking at me if I don't. My face started to clear up and now I have an ear infection and my face is worse... I am dating this kid right now.. He has been hanging out with me for some time now and has seen me without all this on me... After reading some people horror stories about dating makes me appreciate him even more... When ever I start to get upset about it and say some thing like I wish these bumps would go away, he's respond by saying what bumps? Or you're beautiful. So to the people out there with problems with dating.. there are some good ones out there! Anyway besides my face being red the only problem I really have right now is the ones in my scalp. I think they are healing but it is causing me to have crazy dandruff and that is just as embarrassing as anything else... Does anyone have any suggestions? I wish there were faster ways to get rid of it..

Hi NLB,
my P has been in a flare up for quite awhile. I hate it!! Have you ever noticed, if you get a scratch, it then turns into P? Happens to me all the time....so much for getting a tatoo!! Sounds like the guy you are dating has a good heart, and truly cares about you, and sees past your P. He is a keeper!! I just use clobetasol ointment...it's greasy stuff but for me works well. I havnt found a shampoo to get rid of the scalp P though. I use Aussie products and they do seem to help some.

I had 2 scratches that turned into P. I asked the dermatologist why that happened and she told me that it happens (and gave me some technical term for it) She also told me scars can turn into it too. She gave me Clobex spray and it works well.. kind of burns when you spray it on at first but works within a day or two, the only problem is she only gave me a few samples.. I started to use head and shoulders it seems to work some but I will try the Aussie products. And the ointment you suggested! Thanks for writing back!

Hey NLB, the medical term you're talking about is Koebner ( I think that's how you spell it) phenomenon. It's a sign of an active psoriasis. When - not if:)- you'll go into remission it will go away too, and you can scratch as much as you want:).
Stick to your light treatment and your boyfriend- that's two things that got me through my worst outbreak ever .( The boyfriend I'm talking about was obviously a different guy;)- he used to call my patches "spots", even when I was covered from head to toe and looked like a zombie...). Don't lose heart- it will go away! hugs

yep. my scars have also turned into P as well. All scars from incosions from back surgery have P on/in them, scar on my neck from neck surgery, etc.
I always have to be careful of scratches.cuts etc whether my P is acting up or cuz it always turns to P! Even a bee sting a few months back turned into a huge area of P, and it was really weird how it looked at first, almost like hives in that one area, then when I got a regular flu shot 2 weeks ago, that area looks just like when I got the bee sting. I havnt tried the spray stuff yet...is it expensive??

Clobex spray is about 120.00 a "small" spray bottle. If you have good insurance coverage they should pay for a lot of it. I used to get some free samples of it from my dermatologist but those days are over. The drug companies have all but stopped offering these. At least it's been my experience. Good luck.

she has me on different creams and also gave me oil for my scalp, seems to be working now.. and still with the light treatments (which is 70 dollars a week for 80 seconds of light) I work at macys.. I can't afford this! It started to go away and then i got a double ear infection and it came back worse... so I'm guessing my trigger is infections... This all started right around the time I finally left my crazy ex boy friend. I was under a lot of stress and originally thought I had the hives.. and after awhile I knew it was something far worse.. I try to look to the bright side of things like this could be far worse.. Like as aggravating and embarrassing psoriasis is.. at least its not deadly right?

Infections are definately a reason for a flare up. You need to take all of you antibiotics. You may notice a clearing with the medicine, but usually another flare up after you finish the meds. Try not to be stressed our. This will make you skin worse. Since your doctor asked about strep throat you should be happy because it sounds like your doctor is up on the causes and treatments for the ailment. I completely understand about the high cost of meds. I did the light box also. You have to decide is the benefit outweighs the cost. For me it didn't. I am just as clear with topicals as I was with light therapy. For meds; ask your doctor for samples before you pay for a RX. That way you will know if the med is working for you before you pay high dollars for it. Hope this helps. Keep turning to the folks here. It will help you get through your bad days. It does me.

The cream seemed to work right up until the past few days... my face, neck and chest are getting worse again... oh and my back.. I really don't know how much more I can take of this.. I talked to my doctor and told them that I couldn't afford the light box any more and they cut the cost down half.. but its still a little much for some one who works in retail.. so I guess my next question is, is if a tanning bed would be just as good? I'd rather sign up for the gym near me that has it and pay 20 bucks a month vs 35 bucks a week for the light box.. What do you guys do to keep your heads high? I need to get ride of this stress!!!
