Recently diagnosed with mild psoriasis on the penis. Mild in that the problem is redness and itching; there is no scaling. I have used triamcinoine acetnoide 0.1%; hydrocortisone cream 1%; elidel; taclonex and protopic. All to no avail, they have not helped at all. I have found some success with desonide lotion 0.05% but I have to apply it twice a day, and as soon as I stop the redness and itching return. I have concerns about using this steroid that frequently. The best results have come with lidex; I can apply it on one day and do nothing for the next two days and redness and itching return. Used every other day, this works the best of anything I've tried. However, this is a very potent steriod and I have concerns using it this frequently. My doctors, a GP, dermotologist, and a urologist, are all scatching their heads right now. Is there anyone out there who has had a similar experience and has a treatment for successful and significant remission? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

So very sorry!! Of course I never had this exact problem- however, I did have a bit of a problem with my girly parts, and that is when I actively sought out medication verses the ointments, creams, and etc I had been on for a dozen years. That was the line that I was not willing to cross. The medications sound scary, but I was not willing to suffer like that anymore. I hope you find your relief.

Ugh!!! I have had psoriasis on my scalp for years and just recently I have had patches on mu "girly parts" (ha ha) and in my butt crack. Let me tell you there is nothing itchier or more uncomfortable than scales in your butt and along your underwear line. I am devastated and stressed and scared. It is so irritated it makes it impossiblle to have sex, not to mention it is so unsightly. I am embarassed and ashamed and I know I shouldn't be because there is no rhyme or reason for it's occurance but STILL! is yours cured? Controlled? If so, tell me what you take for it or apply to it. I'm terrified it will never go away and get worse and worse as I get older. I'm 25 so I hopefully have a long way to go and I don't know if I want to live my whole life with an itchy crotch. If you know any directions in which you can point me, please do!!!

Very sorry to hear about your condition. I get psoriasis in tricky spots as well and I HATE taking medications especially when they dont' seem to be working which they don't very well for me at all. Recently I've been nursing a baby with it on my one nipple and I've had it in worse places as well so I know how much it stinks trust me. GRRR @ psoriasis!
One thing you might try is to go to a tanning salon and ask for a stand up bed if you can and "expose" the problem area 2-3 times a week. MAKE SURE you are going in for only maybe 3-4 minutes a time. If you do this for a couple of weeks it could quite possibly go away for you. My "tricky" spot went away that way and thank goodness you get a private room cause man I had to do a bit of acrobatics to get to where the "sun don't shine" lmao Even better though is I have heard someone on here say you can get different sizes of the tanning bulb things to buy and use in your own home. They range from a full stand up booth thing to a hand held light therapy wand. Good luck

tonjahn-- can you tell me what medication you have had success with? As I stated earlier my best results were with lidex but it's not wise to use it long term.
sallywag-- nothing more than I said earlier. Highly recommend you try lidex (generic fluocinonide) twice a day for two weeks. If results are good talk to you dr about how frequently you should use this. keep on scratching.

lilpeep--thanks for the info. I know sunlamps and sun are good for acne but I never dreamed that it would help psoriasis.

Hi Jimsu, It's the strangest thing. I had it "there" as well about three years ago. My dermatologist prescribed protopic and after using it only a few days it went away completely never to return. Well I should know better than to say that. I mean at least so far. I have it in some places (like my legs) that no matter what I do it does not fade out or keep from flaring. Plus I'm taking the humira Pen shots. which makes me wonder how bad it would be if I didn't take the shots. Yikes! Best of luck!

Thanks for the info...I have probably 25 small sample tubes of Protopic that the dermotologist gave me along with a perscription for the Lidex. I have never tried the Protopic...I have been using the Lidex. I am going to tru the Protopic for the next week. Do you think twice per day for 7 days is a good test of its effectiveness?

My dermatologist warned me me that "friction" (you can quite imagine what this means) is a huge factor in the problem in the male genetal area regarding psoriasis. Talk to your "skin Doctor" about this.

I read somewhere here a possible link to this and having celiac disease and/or being gluten intolerance. If any of this sounds familiar or you suspect a dietary cause maybe you ought to consider altering your diet. I have had a similar issue on the scrotum and continually apply a lipid restoring balm, that reduces the scaling and redness.
In another area, my hands, my doctor burnt away the tissue and said that reoccurance will not happen within a year

A few of you have mentioned the power of the sunon psoriasis...well I have been following the sun around the house from window to window and puting myself in some awful positions so as to get the sun on the right spots. I must sat it is absolutely astounding the effect this has had...THE PSORIASIS IS GONE in just two days of sun a couple of times each day for 12 to 15 minutes. I have used many creams and lotions without much success over the last 11 monthsand now I find the best thing available for me is free. Amazing...thank you to those of you who mentioned the sun..
