Trying to define my "Inflammatory Arthritis"

Hey all, I've been researching my condition.
I have been sick for several years (since ~2009). In January 2011 I was screened for autoimmune diseases. My RF was ever so slightly elevated, ANA:neg, CRP & ESR:High. Finally in April I saw a rheumatologist who felt that I had SAPHO Syndrome, during a flare a few weeks later, I was started on Sulfasalazine. (My hands, feet, wrists and ankles were the most affected joints) I didn't notice much improvement, but I stuck with it. In September, I sought a second opinion. Had a bone scan, which showed significant inflammation in my hands, feet, ankles, wrists, sacroiliac joints, shoulders, angle of my sternum, etc. I was sent to a dermatologist. About 3 weeks prior to my appointment I developed an odd looking patch on my right hand. The skin felt tight and was pink. When I saw the dermatologist he did a biopsy of the patch on my hand and examined my feet (the right specifically). I've always had "bad feet" with thick callouses and blisters on the sides. However, in the year prior to my appointment with the derm my big toenail had turned yellowish and appeared to be lifting at the corners. My biopsy showed early morphea (localized scleroderma) and he said it was dishydrosis on my foot. I was prescribed Dovonex and Clobetasol for both. Initially treatment went well. The cracked and painful patches on my feet started to diminish. However, the blisters never went away and are extremely itchy. I started developing dryness in between my toes and on the soles of my feet. Blisters started appearing on the soles of my feet. I saw another rheumatologist in January. Who diagnosed me with Inflammatory Arthritis and Methotrexate was added to the mix. Within 3 weeks I began to notice a difference. The patch of morphea never progressed any further and is only noticeable to me now. My joints still hurt, but my fatigue is diminished significantly. However, now all of my toenails, but my little toenail, on my right foot are yellow, rough, pitted. I have itchy blisters on the sides and bottoms of my feet constantly. The only way to get the itchy to stop is to lance the blister. Which I know is less than ideal. Any thoughts or advice? (I do not think that I have ever been tested for the Psoriasis Genetic marker, but I am planning on asking my rheumy next month when I see her) Posted on 05/20/12, 12:20 pm |
