I have had psoriasis since i was little and I saw a specialist when i was young but now I am 26 and it has come back. I dont have insurance that covers specialists and I dont have the money to pay to see one. I have tried over the counter stuff, lotion, vinegar baths and vaseline but they only work for a few hours then the insane itching comes back. I know i shouldn't itch it but sometimes its so bad i feel like i will just scratch it off to the bone. Any one have any suggestions to keep the itching away that is inexpensive??

" Hi mlillley,

You may be able to see a dermatologist at a discount, I think there are programs for this. If you are able to see a dermatologist, you might be able to get a discount card from them for the drug they prescribe for you. For example, I currently take Talconex. The doctor gave me a card sponsored by the makers of the drug, and I was able to get one regular size tube at the pharmacy for free. Also, ask the doctor for samples. This helps, because a few sample tubes can last a while depending on how severe your psoriasis is.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

" Sorry your so itchy :( When I feel really itchy and can't seem to stop clawing at myself, a semi-cool shower helps a lot. I know we can't always jump in the shower every time we get itchy, but if it is possible, it really helps out. I love a hot shower, but as much as I love it, I try to add more to the cool water. The hotter your water is, seems like the itchier it will make you (speaking for myself of course). "

" Vegetable glycerine works well if used twice daily. Also Vapo-Rub helps. The only itch I get is on my back where I can't reach. Also hot showers always made itch more. The colder the better. Start gradually and you will get used to the cold water.

Let me know if this helped so I can send you my bill. Also gluten-free diet seems to help.

Good Luck.

" Hi, I also got psorisis areoud 25... One of the best things that surprisingly took the itching away is rubbing the inside of a banana peel on your skin..... It can be a little messy. I used to do it just before I went to bed,,,, It is easy and cheep... It does work, try it... "

" Banana peel. I guess if you only have a little psoriasis on your elbows maybe worth a try, but whole body?/ May wake up with ants or worse roaches. Whatever, if it works then I would not mind sharing the bed.

" hello mlilley

please listen to what im going to tell but please follow it. The secret to stop psoriasis is to stop showering with so much hot water. Please do this and will go away for ever. shower the coldest water you body can take. if you do this you will even stop using body lotion.

" Yeah, know how you feel, sometimes it takes me 2-3 hours to fall off to sleep becuase the itching is so bad. What I do is I have a warm water bath and while the water is running over the skin I take my thumb and slowly and gently rub the areas so that the most of the dead flakey skin can be removed - dont rub hard you or you will hurt yourself, once that is done I then have a cold as possible shower. You may also want to buy some ultra moisturising creams. The normal lotions dont work, I use VitaSure Skin Calming Cream available off the counter and is not too expensive. Its very important to keep the skin moisturised at all times as once you allow it to get dry the itching will get worse. Also try and relax your mind by doing something relaxing, I like to just sit outside for a awhile to cool the skin, if you have an aircon adjust the tempreature to about room tempreture but dont use it for very long periods as aircons work by extracting moisture from the air which cause your skin to dry out more quickly - Hope this Helps.
