You don't say why you're having homone therapy. Have you had surgery or radiation therapy?

I'm 70 and was contemplating brachytherapy for my cancer, but my prostate was too large for this process. I was given a 4-month shot of lupron to shrink the gland. Actually the effects of the shot lasted for 7 months. During that time, I experienced a lot of hot flashes and pretty much was left without penile erections along with zero desire for sex. That is because the therapy totally supresses the male hormone, testerone. Cancer cells cannot proliferate without testosterone.
Anyway, lupron shrank my prostate about 1/2, but still too large for brachytherapy. I underwent 8 weeks of IMRT radiation and am doing well after 1 year. There are other kinds of hormone therapy like casadex. Some are in pill form and others are injections. They all supress testosterone.

Thank you Taelon for your email. I was going to have a radical prostatectomy but the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes. So my doctor just sewed me bacu up. I have statred taking hormone shots and will talk to another doctor this week about radiation.

i have been on lupron for 2 yrs now yhe side efects are awfull for me steals all your evergy and the crying is unbeliveable good luck my freind

the ultrasound treatment (HIFU) is also used, very successfully, for an enlarged prostate.
