" Hi, well it wasn't my husband, it was my fiance'. He's done extremely well with the surgery, but he's still dealing with our sex life- which is nil at this point. I'd love to hear from someone on how to help him. "

" Speaking from the male perspective and the perspective of a guy who had prostate cancer, us men need our women to stand behind us and be empathetic about our sexual plights. Fortunatly, I am single, so I don't have to worry about pleasing a woman sexually -- at least for now. But I do know this: not being able to get an erection like before to please your main squeeze is VERY EMBARASSING, VERY DEMORALIZING for a man.

I would urge you to help your hubbies/bfs get help, either with Viagra, Cialis, or some other medicine, or through surgical procedures.

Also remember: he can please you sexually other than the good ol' in-out, in-out, in-out, get my drift? "

" As for external beam radiation, even *that* can proceduce sexual side effects. No treatment for prostate cancer is without sexual and urinary side effects, period.

As for alternative methods, I would highly suggest to anybody to ignore these methods and go for the tried and true methods that have been medically tested and have data behind them. A friend tried alternative therapy for early-stage prostate cancer just to avoid the sexual side effects--and now the cancer has spread to his bones.

You must remember: prostate cancer can kill your husband; impotency can't.

" Actually, there is a lot of controversy and not a lot of evidence that radical procedures are more effective, though ignoring things is not a good idea.

I am combining some alternative treatment with careful monitoring of my PSA and some meds for my enlarged prostate which my urologist agrees is not caused by my minuscule Gleason 6 cancer. "

" All of your replies are intersting.

There is no right or wrong anwer. I dare say that everything any that can work is also a placebo.

The medical world is blurred up with stats and information. No one has the time in their life to get all of the information and make perfect sense of it.

The right answers are within us . Life is journey not a guided tour.

There are ways of having my kind of treatment and keeping side effects miminal.

How many of you know a good polarity Scientist and Auyervadic Practicioner ?

" Robyn375....my husband agrees with you on the radical. "Gutted like a chicken" and maybe 10 years extra. Not worth it he says. There is such a thing as "quality of life" and he doesn't feel that radical surgery gives quality.

He's 54 and has a lot to live for and ENJOY! "

" My husband is really unsure what treatment he's going to do. We found a very experienced surgeon that performs radical. He's done 100's of procedures. Another surgeon we've considered uses the Da Vinci robot. He has done around 400 procedures.
Does anyone out there feel there is a major difference between these two surgeries? I know there is a quicker recovery time with robotic...but is it worth it overall?
Lately we've been leaning toward Bracchytherapy because all the people we've talked to that have done surgery say they wish they had done seeds. "
