Hi,
I am new to your group. My name is Bea and my husband was diagnosed yesterday with PC. He is 47 and I am 32. I am really upset with his old dr, because 4 years ago his PSA was 3.8 and he never mentioned that the PSA was a little high for his age. When he took it again a year ago it was 4.5. That dr said we should get it checked, but our ignorance of the situation resulted in us waiting almost 10 months to see the urologist. Part of that is because I was pregnant and had a son in April. He almost did not make it so our focus was there. i feel so horrible for not forcing him sooner. I finally remember last month and got him in, to find this out... His gleason is 3+4 (7) of the 12 punches, 6 had a significant positive. 35%, 70%, 70%, 80%, 85% and 90%. They said it is all on his left side and none on his right. PSA a year ago was 4.5 (not sure what it is now) We go to meet with his dr tomorrow to discuss treatment options. I am trying to learn as much as I can and now I know 4 years ago this should have been looked into. I am so mad at myself for my ignorance. I want to stay positive for my husband, but it is so hard. i do not know how severe this is yet, but the high % on one side really has me worried. When I asked his new dr if it was curable, he said yes, we caught it early. But, that does not look like it was caught early. i know that I do not understand any of this so maybe the high % does not imply it has spread. I hope you will allow me to open your group. I could use support. I am going to recommend this site to my husband because while I am afraid I know it does not compare to what he is going through. Thanks for reading. skidan I thought this group was for support.I think telling other members that there is no cure for their cancer or their husbands isn't the kind of support I would want.I never tell someone that .Just my thoughs maureen

This board is also for useful information. The standard medical understanding is that if Prostate cancer is spread beyond the prostate, it can be treated but not cured. Not being clear about this is not useful information.
BUT he did not say her husband's cancer is not curable, only that if it had spread, not likely, that it was uncurable, and that there were treatments which could make a big difference.

Maureen,
As Jeff stated I never said that there aren 't treatments, just there is no cure. Personally I like to know the score. The doctors sugar coat the score and don't tell you what to expect with treatments and outcomes. If you know that traditional medicine won't cure you, then you look for alternitive treatments that can. I am in the fight of my life and I am winning. I was hoping my story would be inspirational to others who maybe in similar situation. Dan
