Just a quick update on the HIFU surgery my husband had in late April, 2008.
PSA at time of surgery 6.24 PSA 3 months after surgery 3.7 PSA 6 months after surgery 2.4 Urologist says my husband is on the road of recovery. And, most importantly, there are NO post surgery problems or after effects at all, he's on NO post surgery medications, and to date, you wouldn't even know he has had prostate surgery for PC. We are truly blessed, and we wanted everyone to know that there is an alternative out there that might work for someone who has PC. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!! My husband also had HIFU and we are totally happy, no side effects, no down to HIFU, it was a breeze.
HIFU was December 2008 with a PSA of 8.5 June 6 months after procedure PSA was 0.4 Sept.9 months after procedure PSA was 0.3 The important thing is the PSA needs to be low & stable, the number (I think) tells how much tissue was cooked. DK--your husband probably had less cancer than mine did--thus the higher amount of tissue left, the higher PSA number. Congrads, it's nice to find someone else who got lucky. I try to tell people on forums about HIFU, but many of the forums have moderators who don't want to know about it. I've sent in 4 friends who all report back that they had no troubles at all. It's the future!! I hear that in Japan, even high risk cancer has a 64% success rate at 5 years post. (:

Japan also has a success rate of 97% for low risk cancer.
DkSturmer, you also said on another thread that your husband has little ejaculation, my husband is totally dry, so that's another reason I don't believe that your husband's gland was totally ablated. As long as he got the cancer that's all that matters ~ a low and stable PSA. Our doctor, Dr. Scionti, has been treating men for 5 years in Nassau and Puerto Vallarta. I can't find anyone who isn't totally pleased with him and HIFU. No hormone drugs needed!
