I went through 8 weeks of radiation about 16 months ago. I haven't lost any sexual function to speak of. The theory about that is if sexual function before treatment was low, it will probably be just as low or worse after. Of course, you can always try the ed drugs but they have signifigant side effects in some men including vision problems. There are herbal supplements which claim to have the same effect as the prescription drugs, but then I believe there isn't anything anywhere that works for everyone - and that includes prescription drugs.

Well, Grumpy1, lemme tell ya, I'm waiting for somebody to invent Super Viagra. My erections are nowhere near as stiff as before, but that's without Viagra. Find me a pretty gal to help me test it out, and I'll owe you my life!

my husband had his prostate removed last august 07. He has tried Viagra, Cealis and TriMix injections, so far nothing has worked for his erectial disfunction. Now he seems to be "different towards me". he has short answers, snaps easily and now has a "hobby of repairing computers". he spends most of his spare time in his office and we dont even talk liek we use to anymore.
We both knew of the possible side effects of this, and he seemed to be ok with it then, but now that it has hit him in the face, he isnt dealing with it well at all. The closeness that we shared is gone, mentally, sexually, and emotionally. I am at my wits end and wondering what to do next. He doesnt want to go to counseling, and just says :I got a hobby now thats all".. I can tell he is depressed and has changed terribly. I want my ole husband back. Seems life is full of tears lately. I wouldnt recommend this surgery for anyone honestly, if this is what it does, and has left our marriage like. Thanks for listening.

Brachytherapy is the least evasive to sexual function. But other treatment plans work but the biggest issue is getting the best surgeon or oncologist/radiologist.

I had seed implant followed by 7 weeks of radiation at Radio Therapy Clinics of Georgia. After the effects of the radiation wore off, about a month, I had minimal loss of erection capabilities. It has been 8 years since treatment and all is still standing up nicely. I have had some radiation cystitis which started this year. It has caused some Gross Hemituria (peeing blood) which is an aggravation but manageable.

My husband was able to perform just a few weeks after the end of his direct radiation treatment but even with the "pills" it was not quite the same. I keep telling him "go for it" don't worry about me but he thinks that is wrong. What is so wrong about it? I really have no urge anymore, menopause hit me hard and to be brutally honest sex hurts no matter what we do or I do or what the dr give me to try to help. BUT his equipment works and he has a form of ED for years as it is and has had to take one of the various pills the dr gives him as sample packs. Our ins will only pay for X amt a month and charge a fortune for them. Back in the days the pills were great but then time and age have happened. But I am glad for him it did not destroy what is improtant to him. Just because I don't want to much I don't turn him down. I think if it hads made him impotent even with the pills he would be really miserable, more than usual anyway. Hope that doesn't sound harsh but he suffers from depression and won't do a thing about it so he is a big grump most the time but I am used to him and his ways.

I had radical prostate removal in 1999, 10 years ago, followed by a heart attack two months later. Sexual function was hard to come by the first year because my heart doctor forbid my using Viagra. But thanks to a determined and understanding spouse, I have a full sexually active life. I am 70 and my wife is 62. Over the years I felt the need for Viagra and in spite of my heart doctor, I do need to use it now for about 1 in 3 sessions. I feel age has something to do with it, and not the lack of prostate. The only difference is I cannot ejaculate, but I still achieve "male" orgasms.
