New Treatment - Provenge Information

View More Posts Ignore
Hi Everyone,

I am really at shock about what is going on in the medical community regarding Provenge. I have joined this website in an attempt to give proper accurate information for those willing to listen.

Provenge has been FDA approved in May 2010. The company offering Provenge has been doing marketing towards Urologists and therefore some patients have not heard of Provenge yet. This is why I am here. To inform you correctly and accurately about Provenge and its overall survival statistics.

The following link, is a document which explains in detail what 4.1 months MEDIAN survival advantage means. The document is located here http://goo.gl/4rt4i also please visit http://Provenge.com click around and read the information they have for patients. Provenge is FDA approved and insurance companies do cover it. It is also covered by Medicare. If you cannot afford a copay, there is financial assistance offered by the company that makes Provenge. Yes, some have received Provenge for FREE recently!

I urge anyone, that has asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic castrate resistant (hormone refractory) advanced prostate cancer to read this document and understand what Provenge is, how it works and how it can extend your life for months and years with only FLU like symptoms for a few days. This is a godsend compared to chemo and is the most revolutionary product to be approved in recent history. It has the best overall survival of any cancer medication that has been approved by the FDA. Do not be deceived by ill informed Doctors. This is your life, so make sure you have ALL of the information before you make a decision.

When you go in to receive Provenge, all you have to do is sit in a chair and donate your blood. Then show up at the hospital a few days later, where your cancer fighting trained white blood cells will slowly drip back into your blood stream. You have to repeat this process 2 additional times 2 weeks apart. Quick, simple, and most importantly pain free.

Here is a great video for you to watch:

I also recommend you visit a University Medical center compared to private or small practices as these larger institutions are more familiar with Provenge since they participated in the clinical trials. I also urge you to visit an Oncologist as they are more likely to prescribe Provenge than Urologists who are more likely to prescribe other treatments. It seems Urologists are afraid to loose business to Oncologists and thus do not refer patients away. Please Please Please visit the Oncology department at a University Hospital center.

God bless those who are dealing with cancer,

" I am going to tell my Urologist about this. I think he is very antiquated with his processes. He didn't even know about Cyberknife. "

" I asked about getting this treatment. My urologist told me that they will not give it to me unless I have failed hormone therapy , plus have failed chemo treatments.

He also said that I will not live long enough for that.

And they will also not give it to anyone who is being treated for symptoms of pain due to the cancer.

I think that rules everyone out.

--

I think this treatment could save my life, but that they will never give it - because it costs too much "

" My husband received the provenge treatment which did not work for him. But the oncologist did send him for this and it was a pain free treatment. He had not gone through chemo at that time but did have the hormone treatments. He is now on a chemo pill as the chemo treatment failed also. He is loosing ground as it has metasized to many, many bones.
His insurance did pay for the provenge treatment.
I pray the best for you! "

" I too have PCa. I have read a lot about Provenge. Another 4 months of life at 90,000 dollars. No wonder medicare is going broke. Someone, Gendron in Seattle I think is making a lot of money.. No thanks, I am not going to have someone else pay for 4 more months at 90,000 dollars. Provenge is a joke. Someone got payed off to push this through the FDA. Four years, yes. Four months, disgraceful. Jon "

" Raoulby,

If a doctor won't give you treatment, feel free to get a second opinion! You will need to take Provenge after failing hormone therapy. You don't need to fail chemo to take Provenge. In fact the latest thinking is that you should take Provenge before chemo, so that the two can work together.

You also should have minimal pain when taking Provenge. If you have pain, there are treatments that will alleviate this. Then you will be eligible for Provenge.

If you're really interested in Provenge, I would talk to a doctor that has used it a lot. Not all doctors have experience with it, so it's become almost like a specialty.

TennisJohn, you are three times more likely to be alive after 3 years if you took Provenge over the placebo.

Also insurance may cover almost all of the cost of Provenge. Depends on your insurance though, so you'll have to look into that. "

" Ranch99. Wrong on all accounts. Ins. lays off the cost to others. Your 3 times longer is daft. Another big business payoff. I have PCa as well. six years out. 90.000 dollars blows my mind not knowing whether you will live four months longer or not. When its time to go its time to go. Dont leave 90.000 dollars for someone else to pay. Wise up. Jon "

" I believe that the acceptable cost vs. effectiveness of a particular treatment, is a highly individual consideration. No one but the patient, and his family, can assign a value, to the worth of potential short-term survival, or of quality-of-life issues, as they relate to medical intervention and care. I don't think that one should sit in judgement of the ethical values of another individual, because this goes beyond practical considerations, and becomes a moral issue. I think that the medico-ethical determinations should be left up to the patient, and his/her healthcare provider. "

" I would agree SeaSon with your analysis. It is highly individual. If I had info that Provenge would extend my life considerably I would indulge. The reports I refer to are not as promising. I am opposed to laying off the costs to our children for a few months of existing. I dont mean to turn anyone away from whatever they choose to try to extend their lives. I hae PCa too. I live everyday with it and monitor my PSA closely. PROVENGE for those who choose it. Good luck. We stick together in recovery. Thanks SeaSon, Jon, Gleason 7, Radiation 8 weeks in Portland, Tic. Current psa 1.0 after six years, no hormones whatsoever. Only external rad, 3/4 Gleason. Low psa 0.6. Father died of same, surgically castrated, died shortly after. Brother died of same. Another brother had Robotic surgery recently, another brother having trouble with psa. My son has BPH and had a catheter inserted so he could urinate. I took him to the emergencyroom and watched the drip, drip, drip. I am not immune to this subject. I simply am concerned with cat scans, mri's bone scans just because they are free to us. Someone is paying for our indulgence. The Ins. companies lay off those costs to innocent others. Each to their own. Jon "
