Advice:
Should I have scheduled hip replacement surgery?

My husband got the news today, his prostate bx was cancerous. We don't have an appointment till next Thursday to see this doctor, but in the phone conversation he told my husband hip replacement might have to be put on hold. Hip surgery scheduled for 4/21. The doctor also told him treatment for CA is radiation, no surgery. Would anyone know why he would have to put it on hold other than the obvious that he should treat the CA first. He wants the surgery as scheduled, he can hardly walk and has constant pain. The ball of the hip joint is rotting away.

" I think that this is something you will have to discuss with your Doctor next Thursday. There must be a reason for the postponement, maybe it you tell him how bad the hip joint is he might revise his decision.
Good Luck "

" Well Its my Hip and I don't care what he says I;m not going to wait weeks and weeks to have the surgeon re schedule the surgery. I told my wife it can't be that bad if he dont want to removal or chemo on it anyway by the time he can fit me in to get the radiation I'll have a new hip and be out of the hospital like 3 weeks . So as far as i'm concerned Im getting the hip done no matter what he has to say plus Im also going to get a referal to go see another prostate cancer doctor , then decide what course of action I'll go . My wife just wanted to see if anyone else on here when't thru this stuff . Like I tell her my Hip hurts more that my prostate does, and if I would have never had him do his usual over 50 test on me id still never now I had it . thanks anyway "

" Look, obviously you are an adult and you will make your own medical decisions. I do think you should listen to what the doctor has to say, however, though I do also think that most prostate CA is not that urgent, unless the biopsy shows something particularly aggressive.

Good luck on both issues. "
