How long does it take for the PSA to rise once the antiandrogen hormone therapy stops working

In my case, it took about a month and shortly thereafter I underwent radiation. The adrogen deprivation therapy (Lupron)was to shrink my large prostate to prepare me for brachytherapy. It shrank more than half but not quite enough for brachytherapy, so I opted for radiation.

How has the radiation been working for you? A loved one of mine has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Currently he's undergoing antiandrogen hormone therapy, but he also has prostate cancer in his bones. How long did the antiandrogen horomone therapy work for you?
I hope you're doing well now. Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it...

I had radiation about 18 months ago for early prostate cancer(T1c - confined to the prostate).
Now I'm just being monitored with PSA blood tests every three months. So far, things have been going well. I have no symptoms of pain or bleeding and no incontinence or ed. I can't say I'm cured yet - the standard is 5 years, but even after that, cancer can return. So I've just got be vigilant and pay attention to anything out of the ordinary.

I'm glad to hear about the improvement in your situation, and hope you continue to do well :) A loved one was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, do you have any advice for me regarding that?

Any advice would depend on your particular situation. I assume you are male, but don't know how old you are. There is lots of advice online to prevent prostate cancer. It has to do with diet, excercise and maintaining levels of vitamin D, E etc. There is no fool proof way to prevent any condition. You just have to pay attention to any changes you might experience that are not the usual. So many folks ignore symptoms until it's too late for help. Cancer is insidious and it needs close attention.

It is important to go for regular physicals, even though, most men don't like to.
My husband had absolutely NO symptoms for his prostate cancer. NONE. And, yet, when he got a physical for life insurance, his PSA was elevated with an eventual diagnosis of prostate cancer. BUT, his PSA was elevated 4 years ago, a biopsy done, and the biopsy came back negative for cancer..........normal. Therefore, it is important to have regular checkups as not all cancers have symptoms, especially early stages, and tests are not always accurate at a particular moment in time. Checkups!!
