Bromocriptine and side effects

I have been taking bromo for 5 months and it has been hell. I take on tablet at bedtime (2.5 mg). I am tired all the time, pain in joints, headaches, irritability, breast tenderness, pelvic pain, cannot concentrate, sometimes my words won't come out right or I cannot recall a word. I have been told by my endo that the prolactin levels are coming down and I will have to be on bromo for a couple of years and then go off meds for a couple of years but most likely will have to go back on them. My periods are regular but painful cramps.

Now, they have found traces of blood in my urine. I have never had this problem before and my pa is not sure if it can be a side effect of the bromo or not.

Has anybody on bromo had any of the above mentioned problems? How long does it last? is there anything I can do to reduce my side effects?

By the way... this is playing havoc on my marriage. My mood swings are driving my husband and kids crazy. Please help!!!

" Yes, yes and yes. With the blood in your urine, just make sure that they also do a culture to be sure that you don't have a UTI.

I've found that taking Benadryl in conjunction with the Bromo helps you to sleep through the nighttime effects (granted, it took me 5 years to figure this out!) It will get gradually better though! Just hold on. "

" The Bromo is tough and not all that effective. It's got a very short "half life" and thus you have to take it several times during the day.

Cabergoline, with all it's problems, is far smoother.

Also, it's really easy to get too much medication.

Here's a tip: For the body pains and aches...get you some 18mg Strattera capsules. Take one every other day... "

" I talked to my doc and they are switching me to Cabergoline starting on Sunday. I remember too well the first side effects of Bromo when first starting it... any suggestions? "

" Cabergoline is very smooth and even more powerful.

Break your pills in half to get started...my suggestion. You may even take them half as often, for now.

If you get too much of this drug, your blood pressure will drop and your energy will follow. "

" I had all the listed side effects with bromo (including mood swings), but no problems with dostinex. Give it time and see what happens with cabergoline. "

" Laura, I'm so sorry to hear that you've had such a rough time on bromo. I feel very fortunate that I have not had the side effects you mentioned. I've been on bromo since 9/1/09...my prolactin was in the 60's right before the medication. I had a follow up appointment a couple of weeks ago and now my prolactin level is down to 4.5. I do get a little forgetful at times and a little irritable but that's about it. I am taking 2.5 mg 1x daily, also. I hope things look up for you quickly. It must be miserable. "

" I began taking Parlodel in 1978..(age 28) variation of dosages over the years .. since May, I have been on vacation from Parlodel/Bromocriptin At 62 my endo feels it is safe to take a breather from it now and then, even though my turmor has developed again.

Once and endo patient, always an endo patient.. become aware of your bodies and learn as much as you can to discuss issues with your endo.

Take care "
