Cabergoline/dostinex throughout pregnancy

Has anyone taken cabergoline/dostinex throughout pregnancy? I recently found out that I am pregnant and I had a tumor that had bled back in January. I have been on cabergoline and it has shrunk to a microadenoma. My regular endo wants me to stop the drug all together, my RE wants me to stay on the drug for the 1st 8 weeks, and the high risk gyno that I saw said that it would probably be a good idea to stay on the drug. I have no idea what to do!

" This drug, I believe, crosses the blood brain barrier; so you'd have to be off it during pregnancy...in my opinion.

Good question, though. "

" I would be leaning more towards what your endo wants you to do regarding this medication since most likely he/she was the one who prescribed it. My husband and I are planning on having another child and because of this, my endo specifically put me on the Bromocriptine. By the way, are you on anything else, like progesterone? "

" I was on Dostinex up till 7 weeks then was off (per my Geno's request) until 20 weeks. For me the tumor grew very large during the time I was off the medication. I had many bad side effects. At 20 weeks when they checked me into the hospital. Anyway I gave birth to two beautiful boy's at 31 weeks. That are now 11. If you would like more info, just let me know.
Good luck. "

" Thank you so much for your replies. I did decide to stop the cabergoline last night and if I need to, I will go back on it. Nancy, yes I am on progesterone suppositories now. I will be on these until I am 10 weeks into my pregnancy. Apple123, did you have any symptoms before you were checked into the hospital? I am hoping before it would get too bad, there would be some warning signs. "

" Congrats on the pregnancy..I've asked the same question and although there have been studies that show that is not a major side effect to the fetus while on Dostinex I would try to get off of it (just in case)...now if your tumor were to grow and you could started getting headaches/visual field loss I would then get back on it. Bromocriptine usage in pregnant women has been studied for a longer period of time but I've heard there are more bromo side effects. So...I don't think I would switch unless on the advice of a doctor. As soon as I become pregant (trying for this next year -have to save some money) I will let you know what I do. "
