I'm new to this forum, so hello all :)
I've had my first four monthly check with the endo this morning. Following diagnosis of Prolactinoma in Feb/March this year, the Bromocriptine has reduced my levels of Prolactin from 1800 to 516, but still no periods and I'm not pregnant either :( She has increased my dosage now to get the levels down further and if I don't have a period in the next 6 weeks I'm to increase the dosage again. She also tells me that you can still get pregnant even if you're not having periods, has anyone had this experience? I'm 32 now, my husband and I are so hoping to have children soon and this sounds like a ray of hope to me! Posted on 07/01/09, 09:07 am |

Hi Willowspell,
As far as I know you need to ovulate in order to get pregnant and I do not think that happens until your levels are normal- 30 or lower. My husband and I are TTC, but I still don't have a period yet either. My last bloodwork was 31.5. I recently started seeing a reproductive endocrinologist and he just switched me from Bromocriptine to Dostinex, which is supposed to drop your levels quicker. You may want to mention that to your dr. to drop your levels more quickly. My RE told me I could TTC now even though I have no periods yet, but I am trying to wait until I atleast get one. I am getting impatient though. I was diagnosed in January. Good luck. I find meditation helps with the stress.

What dosage are you on? Your levels definitley need to be lowerfor you to have a period and ovulate. How large is your tumor?

Thanks for your replies, this is all very confusing! My Endo said that 516 is getting close to normal levels, but if you say that 30 is normal then I have a way to go yet!
I'm currently on one tablet a day which is 2.5mg, she said if I don't get a period in the next 6 weeks then I am to increase it to 2 tables a day. When I had the MRI scan, they said the tumor was tiny. I do get frustrated with it all and stress elevates prolactin levels which doesn't help. I do try not to get stressed about it as there are people out there with nothing wrong with them who struggle to conceive, so I'm grateful that I have something obvious to be "fixed"

My prolactin level was at 6 when my period finally returned. Just keep working with your doctor on the dosage and your levels...516 is still to high for most people to get a period...my endo said mine would need to below 20...and thats when it came back...
