HELLO AF!!!

Well, after not having a period for a year and a half, I finally got AF TODAY!!!

I was diagnosed in April with a 6mm prolactinoma, had breastmilk, no period and a terrible weight gain. My prolactin level was 121, so my doctor put me on 2.5mg of Bromocriptine 3 times a day (I had to work up to that dosage). I went back for my bloodwork last week after 9 weeks on the meds and then met with the endo this past Monday. My prolactin levels were down to 5.7! He said my hormone levels looked like I was getting ready to start my period anytime... man was he right! He also dropped my dosage down to only 2 X a day, so that is nice.

Next goal - get some of this weight off and have me another baby!!

Good luck to all!

" Thats awesome news Karrah!!

I've never had any of those problems. My prolactin is only at 46, and I have never had problems with my periods.

So does this mean that your prolactinoma has gotten smaller? That is what I need to happen in order to have a baby. The doctor said that my prolactin level right now would hinder me from getting pregnant, it needs to get back to normal. I started 2 weeks ago on 5 mg of Bromocriptine once a day. I think she may increase that if it doesn't help, but she said she wanted to start me off at a low dose.

I have to have blood work beginging of august and then I see my endocrinologist Sept 1. She is then going to book an MRI to see if it has gotten any smaller. I am really hoping it will have if even just a little bit!!

Again, that is great news, and hopefully you'll get to have another baby now!! :) "

" Cherisse70- My doctor was very cautious about starting my meds. The first day on bromo, I took only half of a 2.5mg pill, then the next day I took one full pill, continuted that way for one week, then I went to 2 pills a day for a week then finally 3 - 2.5mg pills a day. I have to say that the first 3 to 4 weeks, I was nauseated, so I would take my pill with food and that helped, eating several small meals a day also helped with the nausea. My nose would get very stuffy about an hour after taking the bromo. After being on 3 pills a day for about a week, all of my side-effects disappeared. I stil take my pills with food, but no other bad symptoms to speak of.

I really think that everyone is different, but after a while I do think that most people will see their symptoms go away for the most part if they just stick with it.

GL to ALL!! "
