Hi, every one! This is my first day on this site and I hope to gain a lot of support from other people who are going through similar things as my self. I have a problem with a narcotic that is prescribed to me for an illness. I have sickle cell anemia and take my meds when I feel pain . But now I' m finding myself taking this med every night. I do have pains but not bad enough to take the narcotic. sometimes I take it because I don't want to feel pain that might occur while I'm asleep but other times I make myself believe I need it. I just need help. so please help me.

" It sounds like you may be at the very beginning of a future problem with addiction by making yourself believe you need the pain meds when you don't. Try taking them only when you feel pain and only if the pain is so bad you cannot tolerate it. Many of us have occasional muscle aches and pains especially as we get older but we just overlook them.

Do you run out of pain meds before your next prescription? Are you taking more then you should? If so, then you have a problem. If you are taking them as prescribed, then you have nothing to worry about.

I hope this helps with what little information I have on you. Let us know if anything changes.

God Bless and TC! "

" If the severe pain comes on suddenly, it may be best to keep the pain meds in your system but that's something your doctor should have told you. You should ask him about that just to make sure you and he are on the same page.

But as long as you are taking them as prescribed, you should be ok.

God Bless and TC! "
