" Yes! There are many who have not gone to jail. The nurse I mentioned in an earlier post went to jail because she got caught going to two different hospital emergency rooms for the exact same problem, just to get narcotics!

Drug abuse is an epidemic in this country! Believe me, with so many jails being overcrowded these days, They would rather see you get help for your problem rather then incarcerate you. If you go back to work and become a tax paying citizen again, everyone benefits!

Just concentrate on getting help. The detox, the IOP, the drug counseling, whatever it takes. There are many willing to help and you cant be afraid to ask!
During your free time, try going to as many AA or NA meetings as you can. You don't have to speak if you don't want to, just listen. You will be glad you went.

We are here everyday as well. Thanks for the update and good Luck to you.

God Bless and TC! "

" Annie,
Courts these days are starting to understand that non-violent addicts are in need of treatment, not jail. There are more and more therapeutic drug courts popping up all over the country which consist of monitoring you over 12-18 months to make sure you are going to treatment, meetings, keeping a job & place to live etc,. They are great programs and wonderful diversions from the correctional facilities.
And, that's only if this were to turn criminal. It sounds like it will probably stay within your employer and just have to do what they say. Believe me, you are not the first health care professional to go through this! One of our local nurses just got caught stealing a bottle of fentanyl, she put saline into the bottle after she took the fentanyl out. She did get charged b/c the anesthesiologist gave the patient what he thought was the fentanyl and nothing was happening!
