I have looked for support places and feel this is a good one. I have been on Norco for over three years and I just want to be able to talk to others about stopping and questions about it. I don't take them to get 'high' I take them for pain but alot of dr. say there too addictive and won't help with the pain. So does anyone have the same issues and if so what do you do about it?

" I don't know how many you are taking and for what kind of pain but the usual way of stopping is to be weaned off of them under a doctor's supervision. Let him tell you how fast or how slow!

If you have difficulty doing it that way, then you will have to go through a safe medical detox for 3 or 4 days. This is usually in a clinic or hospital where you will stay overnight so you can be watched by nurses and given medication to help you through the withdrawal period. You will also be seen by a doctor on a daily basis who will give you a complete physical and prescribe any meds he feels you need.

You said you don't take them to get high so maybe you can be weened off from them but, I am not sure. Just talk to your doctor and let him know what your goal is regarding the Norco. He is the best one to help, and he will set the wheels in motion rolling toward your recovery and a better life without Norco!

I admire your desire to get off the narcotics! It is a difficult decision to make and you deserve alot of credit!

Let us know how things are going for you and if our prayers for you are being answered!

God Bless and TC! "

" Thanks for the comment. I have osteo sarcoma, bone cancer, and I started them for the pain and then found out I had cancer. I have spoke to my primary dr. and he isn't very helpful. He sent me to this one pain management dr. and she told me to start this program but it is 1500 and I don't have that kind of money to just hand over to this dr. I was when the pain was very bad I was taking between eight and ten and now I just take no more than 3-4 on bad days and 1-2 on good days. Don't know if that is good or bad. I just know that I don't take them to get high I use them as prescribed and that is 1-2 every four hours for pain but I haven't ever taken that much ever. The dr has on the rx not to excede 12 daily. Well that has never happened. I have tried on my own but I get very anxious and the dr said cause I have been on them for almost 4 years straight. So I just wish I had a family dr that was more willing to help then to just leave me in the dark. That other dr. said you can do it on your own cause I flat out told her I cant afford that. So she said you will just suffer for about 4 days and then it will be ok. Well, I thought that is easy for you to say. But I thought abt the hosp. here to detox or whatever but they want the money upfront cause of no insurance. But thank you for the comment and just keep me in your prayers cause I have 3 left and no refills and scared to call the dr and tell him whats going on cause the last time he really didn't care. "

" A doctor who doesn't care shouldn't be practicing medicine.

Honey, if you have chronic pain, there is no shame in taking narcotics as prescribed which you obviously are!

Check with your local office of the dept of human services to see if you qualify for financial help with your medical bills.

" The dr. that first started me on these stupid things dropped me cause it was coming up on the wkend and i was going to need a refill so i called that fri and that tues i had a letter in mail of firing me as a pt cause the nurse felt i was getting addicted, well the dr and i spoke of that and he said people with depression or bipolar have addiction behavior and wrote the rx right there so i just assumed since i brought it to his attention and if there was a problem he would have said something not what he did. at that time is when my husband also lost his job and insurance so i think that had something to do with it, cause my sis sees him and HAS HAD a prob. with more pills than just norco and he helped her and still sees her....its all about insurance....
