Hello everyone. Here I am back on DS....I first joined the site when I was two months pregnant and found out I'd be raising my daughter alone. Long story short, I was put on Norco to help with breastfeeding and over the past couple months have been taking pills from work. I got caught yesterday. Ironic because I have prayed and prayed all week for help. I use them to get high, and stay happy. Now, I have to do a peer assistance program before I can get my job back (If I ever do) Man I wish I hadnt been so stupid. Please any input would help. I'm not even really withdrawling yet...just stressed as hell and depressed. :(

" You prayed for help! Sometimes God answers prayers differently than we want him to. This is your chance to get the help you were praying for. "

" annief,
welcome! I had a similar experience where I forged an Rx, by changing the 1 in #15 to a 7 (for #75) it was almost as if I knew I'd get caught and I sure enough did! I had changed other Rx's at other times and never got caught but this time was different and if I hadn't gotten caught, who knows where it would have led.
I have a question though...why would they put you on NORCO to help with breastfeeding? Wouldn't that cause the baby to become addicted to opiates? Anyway, I know many folks that have had to do "impaired professional" groups to get their jobs back....it would be SO hard working around all those drugs all of the time. I have lots of hope for you!!

" Zengal, what did they do when you got caught? Just curious, did they just fill the original prescription? Not gonna lie and say I haven't thought of doing that but I was scared to do it so I didn't. "

" Often the threat losing a job that we trained so hard for is enough to keep us from relapsing. But if I were you, I would increase my chances of continuing in my career by taking relapse prevention counseling!

It will be extremely difficult for u to work around medication if you are a full blown addict! If so, you will have to have them put you where you wont be around narcotics.

I have a friend who use to be an RN. As a matter of fact, she even got a few prescriptions for me at the height of my drug use! They took her back and gave her a second chance after going through rehab but she was caught stealing from patiences again, so they fired her. She lost her license and could only do home health care for a client who was not using medicaid to pay for her services. AGAIN she was stealing! Lost job after job and eventually wound up in jail for a few months. Now she is out and working in a donut shop but she is clean thanks to a supportive husband and family!

The urge to use in an addict is so overwelming that the only way to deal with it is stay as far away from narcotics as possible. Those are things you learn in relapse prevention counseling!

One major trigger for you is your job. I could never deal with very sick and injured people on a daily basis. You have a huge heart for even attempting it. You need to learn ways to deal with the stresses of your job so you won't reach for something to take away the emotional pain!

It would be a good idea for you to see your doctor and get something for your depression. I am on cymbalta myself and it works quite well but there is a new one out called pristiq and I heard this is even better then cymbalta!

It may very well be that just the depression medication is all you really need but you wont know until you talk to your doctor!

What you did happens everywhere so now it is time to put this behind you and move on. You are not a bad person, you just have a sickness and how you treat that sickness will determine your chances at relapsing. I would also like to recommend AA or NA which is a great place to get support and you NEED support!

Anything else we can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask!

God Bless and TC! "

" Hi annief!
Welcome back! I'm also very curious why you would get norco for breastfeeding.

I often think about how difficult it must be for a pill addict (or recovering addict) to work in a medical setting! At this point in my sobriety I couldn't do it. I guess getting caught can be looked at as a blessing sometimes.

You know, what's ironic for most of us is that we took the pills to make us happy and they made us miserable.

Have you thought about going to a 12-step meeting like NA or AA? A lot of times if your employer knows you're going to meetings they will give you your job back.

Good luck and keep coming back! "

" Hey All!! Thank you so much for all your heart-felt responses! I am proud to say I am on day 4 with no pills and feel great! I think I caught myself (or got caught) early enough I should say that it's not going to be as tough as I thought. Each day has gotten a bit easier. My fiance went to church yesterday and I had an amazing experience. As far as being on Norco for breastfeeding, this is something that is typically done. A small amount is excreted through the breastmilk, but not near enough to get your baby "addicted". I would never had taken it if that was the case. But because it was so painful for me, our pedicatrician and my OB decided the benefits of my baby getting my breastmilk outweighed the small amount she'd get thru the milk. Anywho, I am on prozac and have been for years (except during my pregnancy) and plan on keeping it that way. I praise God that my prayer was answered to quickly, and before I got into more trouble. You have a great group of people here. I will continue to update as I go through this. Thanks so much for all your support and prayers. God is good...ALL THE TIME!
Sincerely, me! "

" Yeah Annie,
I'm really happy for you that you are 4 days clean and it's not horrible!
Scruffy.....as far as your questions goes, NO they didn't fill the original rx or anything for me. The police questioned me and like a dummy, I talked to them then I spoke to a friend who is a Public Defender and he told me to NEVER talk to the cops, he's sure they were taping it...I never admitted to anything. Got in touch with an attorney who said they may just throw it out but we'd have to wait and see. 2 months later, my attorney got the file on his desk that they were charging me with "attempted misconduct involving a controlled substance in the 4th degree". I've never been so scared in my life, never had any kind of legal trouble at all, I was freaking out big time.
Anyway, I went into court and pled guilty, read a letter to the judge coming clean about my addiction, then apologized. I got 40 hrs of community service and 1 year probation and NO fines....Also I got an SIS (suspended imposition of sentence) which meant if I completed my comm. service and probation without any problems, the charge would be "wiped off" my record. I was SO lucky, and I know it....do NOT try this. I was very stupid and desperate!

Keep on keeping on friends!

Zengal "

" Prozac is one of the older antidepressants. You might want to ask your doctor if you can try a new one like pristiq or cymbalta. Both are very good meds.

I am so happy to hear you are getting back on track. Yes, God does answer prayers!

God Bless and TC! "
