Hi Everyone i am new here to this support group! I have been a member of DS for a while but would really like some in-put from you all! My husband has been addicted to Methadone for about 6 years now, currently for the last 2 weeks he has been in the transition center here where we live, he was sentenced to 30 days jail for sharing his meds with a friend and because the jail was full they put him in the transition center. Long story short, they are making him come off these damn pills and told him that it should take 7-12 days for him to pee clear and free of Methadone. He went in on the 5th of october and its now the 20th and he is still peeing dirty?? So now they are telling him that he is lying and that he is still taking them. He is not allowede to leave the center and is on restriction becuz of being dirty. I am not even allowed to go visit him. There are alot of people in there that get to leave and go to work during the day and then they come back at night. Do you think he is still dirty because he has someone bringing him Methadone or that it could really take this long to be clean. He takes 10mg pills and takes about 14 a day for the last 6 years. Just curious as to how long it will take for him to be free from dirty U/A??? They now have told him if he pees a dirty u/a on friday that he will sent to jail and charged with this and could get a PV (probation violation) and get up to another 90 days in jail. Does anyone have any idea how long it could stay in his system! He swears to me on the phone that he has not had any but really has not acted all that sick when we talk everyday! I think that they are right something is going on?? They told him he has not been sick really like most are that are withdrawling!!

" Addicts are real good liers. I know I became an expert at fooling people. When I went to detox, most of the family was in a state of shock! Never had a clue I even had a problem.

Now for the answer to your question. At the most, methadone will stay in your body for 7 days.

It wouldn't be very difficult to tell if someone was suffering from withdrawals. It feels like something is crawling under your skin and feel like you have the worst case of the flu you have ever had.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck! "

" Hey Celine-
I'm sorry to hear that your husband is having a lot of trouble. If he continues to test positive then someone is probably getting it to him while he's in the center. Like Bob said- the withdrawals are terrible but if a doctor at the center could get him on an opiate antagonist like suboxone or naltrexone-- he wouldn't have the bad withdrawals.

Take care and keep us posted... "
