Well, I have mad erhe decision to quite drinking and I think I want to stop taking Xanax as well. The xanax is going to be far worse I imagine since my problem with alcohol is not that I have to have it, I just can't contol how much I drink. With Xanax on the other hand I take 1mg twice a day per the script. However, the dr gave them to me and said take them only when I need them. I have been on Xanax for approximately 3 to four years. I plan on weening myself off by going down to .5mg twice a day and then .5mg once a day. So what am I in for? I know that the days that I try and use them when I "need" them I start to feel absolutely crazy.

" Good for you for realizing you have a problem with alcohol and wanting to stop! I'm sure there are some great AA meetings in Nashville. I suggest going to check out a meeting.
With your Xanax problem you could read the thread in this support group called "Getting off Klonopin". Benzos like Xanax are extremely hard to get off of. I'm weaning down from Klonopin right now. Last night I googled about withdrawals and found a lot of info. It looks like you know how to taper down. First TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR!!! Taper off of it really slowly!!!

Take care and let us know how you're doing! "
