oxycontin recovery

after being addicted to oxycontin for two and a half years, I have decided to get sober for good. I have tried four or five times cold turkey, and I'm hoping this is the last time. The reason I do it cold turkey is so that after I have suffered through the withdrawals: nausea, diarehea, insomnia, muscle twitching, pains...I would hope that I would never want to go through if again. I did take a half of a methadone this morning so I could work, but I'm looking for support, advice, help!

" Congratulations on your desire to quit! It is extremely difficult to quit "Cold Turkey" I know of only one person out of hundreds that was able to do it that way.

If you want to make it easier on yourself, check yourself into your local detox center, where you can get help and medications to get you through the withdrawal period. They will probable give you suboxone which will prevent you from getting sick.

I would higly recommend relapse prevention counseling after detox.

Please keep us updated on your recovery. Your success can be an inspiation to others.

Prescriptiopn drugs kill over 50,000 people a year! I hope and pray that you don't become another statistic.

Take care and God Bless! "

" Hi there!
I did cold turkey but mine was percocet & vicodin. I was sick for about 5 days and then headaches and insomnia for 2 months. I think with something as dangerous as Oxy withdrawals-- do NOT do it cold turkey!

Take care of yourself! "

" Congratulations on trying to quit. My husband was addicted to oxy's for many years and went to detox about 5 years ago when I told him to get help or get out. Our life was just out of control. He went thru hell even with the detox and the two week kit he went home with. He has involuntarily went into withdrawl on a three day ski trip that turned into 6 due to a blizzard and went cold turkey - it was horrible. We had five good years without the oxy's now some genious gave it to him again and he is back in the same place he was 5 years ago. I will pray that you can forever be clean of this horrible drug and that you do not suffer very much trying to get off of it. Go to a real dr. to help ease the symptons if you need to! I know that muscle relaxers helped him as well as suboxone (but only for two weeks or you will be addicted to that too). I wish you only the best and I am proud of you for doing this-for yourself and for the people who love you. You will be proud of yourself too!!!! Good luck to you! You have chosen to Live!!!!!! "
