My husband broke his wrist on Sunday when he was working and he won't take ANYTHING for it. He's been to the hospital, had all the right things done, but he won't take anything for the pain. He's had his back fused about 8 years ago and developed a horrible pain pill addiction. He's completely clean now and won't even take a Tylenol for a simple headache. What can I do to help him?

" I call behavior such as what your husband is exhibiting 'overcompensation'. My nephew was severely ill with lyme's disease, gallstones, kidney stones and hepatitis C and would take nothing more than a Tums antacid. Theoretically it is commendable, but there has to be a point at which you will accept help in order to survive.
My husband won't take pain meds either and I don't know if that is because of his old cocaine habit or just macho stubborness. I just go along with his wishes as you probably are doing right now, also. "
