How long does a vicoden detox last????

Hi there my wife just confided to me last night that she is addicted to vicoden. Although this is a heartbreaking addmisssion, I am so grateful to finally hear something truthful come from her mouth.. its been a hell of a year full of lies and pain.

But cutting right to it though, so I stayed with her last night(we are separated) her last dose was 28 hours before so last night she was trying to sleep and was super anixous tossing turning hitting and kicking out in the bed. I eventually has to sleep on the couch cuz it was impossible to sleep.. I tried to embrace her but it would last only minutes before sporatic movements took over.

I pleaded with her to seek a councelor today and talk to her doctor. She told me this in confidence and doesn't want others to know(close family suspects it anyway). I need her to trust me but I also think that others need to know to help and such..

Please any comments or thoughts on getting through something like this would be greatly appreacaited.

Thanks

" Reading thru some postings it appears that many have weened off this and other prescription drugs. I guess it makes sense considering the withdrawals she was going through last night. She was taking 3-4 a day. "

" I'm on day 3 of my second vicodin self-detox. Each day gets a little better usually, but I almost feel like I felt a little better yesterday. Chills, dizziness, increased appetite yet vomiting. I am so tired and just want to sleep, but it helps to keep busy and keep moving. I was taking 10-12 pills a day, so my system is in great shock. The last time I did this, I truly felt "normal" after about 5 days. This time around seems a little easier, but I think it's because I was also dealing with a bad hangover the last time. I am also trying quit drinking. The vics always made me crave alcohol, so I don't really miss the drinking...yet. I hope your wife will stick through it and stay strong. Mind over matter. Each day without the pills seems like a week, so it is something that needs a lot of praise and hugs! It will get better, and it will be very worthwhile! "

" Lucky for you and your wife pill addiction can be easily treated and lasts from 5 to 14 days. There are treatment drugs out there that can help. I haven't told a soul that I have an oxycontin addiction but I did my own research. I found a drug called suboxone to help take away all my anxiety and withdrawl symptoms. She can go privately to her doctor or even a different doctor so no one knows. By law no doctor and give out your personal information as to why you are there so no one can find out. She'll have a doctors note for work and it is completely confidentual. She doesn't need someone telling her what to do right now like you. This will only piss her off and then she'll feel like she can't turn to you for help. When someone is addicted to drugs like me no one wants to hear someone else tell them how bad they are for making these choices. She only wants to hear that you are there for her when she needs it. If she wants you to drive her to the doctor then offer but don't by any means tell her what she should do. She'll have to do this on her own. I know this sounds mean because you love her and you want to help your loved one but she has to want to help herself first. Whatever you do DO NOT TELL ANYONE. You are lucky she finally told someone. This means she's ready for help but this has to be a slow process. If you tell anyone else she will never trust you again. Please just be there for her. "
