HELP! Oxy to Diladed - ok or bad?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
I just wrote a 'how to stop cravings' advice question and forget the second part of my advice need.

So to recap; I beat an oxycodone addicition and still have cravings. Lately they're really bad. I was on the oxy for pain, and since I'm off the meds, the pain is back - BAD.

The doctors want to put me on diladed, but as bad as I was the pain gone, and as bad as I want to faux euphoria I got from over taking the oxy back, I'm terrified of loosing myself again.

Does anyone know much about this medication? I googled it and it seems to be in the same vein as oxy. Should I take it or not? I've tried talking to my doctors and they just tell me, as long as I am controlling myself I'll be fine, but I think i've already proven I don't have self control with getting addicted to the oxy.

Any advice??

" Hello Eden-
Please tell your doctor(s) that you're allergic to narcotics.
There are other medications that can be prescribed for pain that are not narcotics, one example is Naproxen.

My husband is an oxy addict...recently he's been prescibed naproxen for his migraine headaches. "

" Yes, please tell your doctor your situation. Dilaudid is very strong and if you feel yourself becoming tempted, think back to the withdrawls you endured. Its just not worth it and Michelle is right, there are a lot of medications out there that will help your pain without putting your recovery at risk. Recently I fell off a ladder and hurt my ankle pretty badly but as an addict I had to step back and assess the situation. I didn't even go to the doctor because I know that I may have taken a script if he had offered it. I try to remind myself of people who are suffering in ways I can't even imagine, yet they rarely complain and always persevere, without narcotics. I aspire to live that life and I have to be on top of this addiction 24/7. Prayer works, give it a try and I will be praying for you as well. God bless, Kim "

" I do not know much about it, but my brother was addicted to xanax and lortabs for years, yes he was an abuser of these drugs. However when he started to mess with diladid it took his life, he died from an overdose of this drug, combined with xanax and lortab. It was not legally prescribed to him, but he was having it injected in his veins, he had become very much in love with this drug as well, in about a matter of a month from as far as we can tell. I am not telling you this to scare you, but if you have an addiction, or are recovering from an addiction, I would be scared to try something like this. "

" dilaudid is just as bad or worse than oxy. the potential for abuse and the high. I'm a medical professional and have had my own issues as well as seen many pt with strong addictions to dilaudid. If you use for the high, dilaudid not safe at all. good luck my friend. I also would look for an addiction psychiatrist that could consult with your doctor about medication combinations that would be safer and help control your cravings and your pain. I have to take naltrexone which helps me resist temptation because of the environment I work in. But if your really serious about staying clear of opiate addiction, dilaudid is definitely dangerous. " I would definatly suggest not getting those if you are trying to stay away from the high. Some other poster had said trying something like naproxen for pain, and that is not a good suggestion at all for chronic pain. Obviously it would do nothing for your pain. Try something small like tylenol with codeine or vicaden. It is still a habit forming medication, but not as potent as oxy or D's. Good Luck. And FYI, I have been clean for 1.5 years from doing pills and heroin with needles. I just relapsed 4 days ago on dilaudid, if that can tell you anything. "

" Dilauded is stronger then morphine.. orally tho, it doesnt get peopleas high as oxycontin.. if you do decide to take it, give your pills to a close friend or relative. And then explain the situation, and have them give it to you.. and maybe set a certain amount they can give you..

I am a chronic pain suffered, abdominal pain, cramps tec. etc. I do use my oxys for the pain, but at the same time I also abuse it often... so my tolerence has risen quite a bit, and doesnt work like its suppose to.. But I dont take anymore then my prescribed dose.

If you need anything feel free to msg me. "

" Dilaudid is probably the worst of them all. It's the top of the line nircotc.Once one likes it, there is never enough. If you think you have the slightest incline towards addiction, please do not take this drug. "

" Dilauded is stronger then morphine! Unless u have someone u can trust to hand it to u as prescribed, your addiction is going to control you just like it did with the oxy!

Naproxen is useless for strong pain. It is similar to ibprofen. You should stay away from narcotics completely or you will pay a very severe price so tell your doc about your addiction.

Good luck! "

" I would as your doctor about suboxone. it what they give you to help get off oxy but it still a narcotic. It helps with about 1/2 the recepters in your brain that the oxy effect with no side effects. It helps with the withdrawls and cravings but from what I've heard it is still a pain killer. Maybe this can help with both your cravings and pain. If not then good luck because Diladed is just as bad if abused. "
