Advice:
How do you fight cravings?

I was addicted to oxycodone. I was on it for pain relief, and now that I'm off it, I still have the pain, but all the emotional stuff is full frontal again now too.

Lately I have been having the strongest cravings and I need advice on fighting them. I keep reminding myself how messed up it was. I lost the best relationship I'd ever had because of it, almost lost my degree because of it, and lost a few friends along the way due to how messed up I was. I don't want to be that person again, but sometimes, like right now, I don't care and I just want to feel okay for a while, physically and emotionally.

And it's hard to fight because I know how easy it is to get. The doctors here don't think twice about writing out a prescription as long as they don't see me for a couple months after, so I used to just hop from surgery to surgery every couple of days to get a refil. Yes. Every couple of days. A pack of 30-50 10mg tablets lasted around 2 days, 3 if I was lucky.

I guess I'm just lost and need a new perspective. Any advice would be appreciated. I've been clean 14 months and I don't want to mess that up.

" Wow 14 months is amazing. I know what you feel like, at time you wan't it so bad that you would do ANYTHING to get it. At time like that I take a hot bath, listin to music or do my school work. If you really feel like thers no hope talk to some one you trust and ask them to stay with you untill the feeling subsides a little. The main thing is to try to keep busy. "

" good advice Shmitty.... a jacuzzi really feels good. I like to go to the gym and work out or go to a movie. Most importantly, talk to people you trust and let them know how you are feeling. being open and honest about how you feel helps a lot. think about yoir future as well. is 4 hours of feeling "good" worth the 14 months you have been clean and worth how hard you have worked to ensure yourself a stable and postive life? " Hey Eden,
I have 10 months clean and everyday is still a struggle for me as well...When I get bad cravings I try to think really hard of times I had no pills and went through withdrawals...I truly envision myself with hot/cold sweats, leg cramps, severe anxiety and just plain out feeling like shit...this usually snaps me back into focus...just a possible idea....Hang in there... 14 months is something to be soooooo proud of....always here to talk...

" I hope to be like you in 14 months. It's only been 4 days for me. I think the hardest part is kicking the habit of wanting to just snort something up my nose. Maybe i should snort some goody powders and trick myself. Ask your doctor or drug dealer about suboxone. It may help you. I don't know if turning to other drugs to help works for you but it does help other people out there. You're not alone.

Addiction will always be a struggle from here on out. You will always have cravings from time to time but it's how you handle them that will determine your future. Just think about how far you've come. I am proud of you and hope to be like you soon. Drug free. "
