I was born nearly 3 months premature and have epilepsy and bipolar disorder. I'm thinking maybe it's due to the premature birth, like my brain didn't develop right or something. Some wiring got crossed perhaps.
Also, I have a tendency to feel... cut off or isolated. It's like I'm looking out at the world from a glass box and nothing really touches me. I can't help but wonder if this might have something to do with literally being in a glass box for the first couple months of my life, you know? I wonder if something like rebirthing techniques could be helpful, or perhaps the holotropic breathwork of Stan Grof for re-experiencing paranatal trauma and resolving it. anybody familiar with such things? any body tried? Success? No? Any thoughts? Peace, whirl Posted on 07/07/09, 03:56 pm |

Seizure disorders & prematurity can definitely be connected.

I have been born 4 months premature... I was diagnosed with, "orgainic personality change due to premature birth". In the DSM it is 310.1 but my doctor added organic in front of it. What it means I still don't know. I mean what part of my personality dysfunction stays with me forever? But my point is, yours is probably connected. Don't have any treatment ideas though... sorry.

I don't know. It is definitely something I have thought about though because I have struggled with a lot of things. Some of them I have a general idea of where they stem from but others I have no clue and thought possibly it could have been due to the development of the brain.
This isn't related to you, but because you were talking about psychological problems, mine include self-injury, bulimia, and an obsession with safety. I have had the safety concerns since I was really little (like three years old) so I thought it might have something to do with brain wiring rather than some frightful experience. Who knows.
