has anyone gotten the news that their preemie has stage 4 rop??

Not Stage 4. Once my 23weeker reached stage 3 she had the laser surgery. It was successful and regressed 100%. She did lose some of her periph vision, and started wearing glasses for nearsightedness at 18 mo actual 14 mo adjusted. Unfortunately myopia does not get better it gets progressively worst, but we figured she would be a candidate for lasik surgery once she hit 18. In some instances they perform it earlier if there is a gross difference in the diagnosis of each eye (i.e. -4.00 right eye -11 left eye). The difference may have to be higher than that, but that was just an example.
There are 5 stages of it and at that point retinal detachment can happen. Have anyone talked to you about laser surgery yet?
