So I had my 20 week u/s today and baby A is perfect. Baby B we weren't blessed with good news. We have to see a pediatric cardiologist tomorrow morning to get another scan of his heart cause the dr said there's something worng. He also has something going on with the shape of his head and fluid in his kidneys. The dr seems to think that since there s 3 different things that its chromosomal. We're trying to stop postivie and hope its all ok and just a coincidence. I haven't stopped crying. Has this happened to anyone and everything turned out ok? I'm just praying right now cause I don't know what else to do.

" I do not have any experience with this myself, but I also wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully you will get more details and information that will bring you some peace. Just remember that knowledge is power, if there is a problem you will get extra care and attention so when baby arrives everyone will be prepared to give the proper medical attention right away. Just don't give up hope... doctors can't tell what problems will fix themselves in utero.

I have a couple of stories that might bring you some hope. My nephew was born with an undiagnoised heart defect that almost put him on the transplant list. It was touch and go for a while and he had three open heart surgeries before he was three yrs old... but now he is 18 and a typical teenage boy! He is our miracle. :0) My cousin's little girl was diagnoied with having a major brain problem and the doctor advised that the pregnancy be trminated, but my cousin refused. She did have water on the brain (I do not know the exact term for her problem) but after surgery to put in a shunt and some physical therapy she is a normal, happy, active 8 year old girl... she is a little behind academically but she walks and talks and runs and plays and is just a beautiful little girl.

I am praying you get good news at the scan. "

" I don't have personal experience either, but my Aunt was told that her daughter had multiple problems including Downs during a scan. they did an amnio to confirm but it came back inconclusive.

She's now a precocious 7 year old who is literally perfect - not a problem in the world. "

" I am so sorry about the news. I know it is very emotional and very very scary. Did they do an amino? My thoughts are with you. "

" I was told during a scan that my baby had something very wrong and she would either have Downs Syndrome or Cystic Fibrosis. We didn't know what to do either so we started researching and praying.

Our baby turned out not only perfect, but incredibly beautiful too! "

" I feel for you because something similar happened to me - only with BOTH babies. They saw several different "markers" for T13 and Downs (I could have dealt with the latter but the former is essentially a death sentance). Some of the markers (like 2-vessel cord) by themselves wouldn't have meant anything, but combined with the others (CPC, large neckfold, extra amniotic fluid etc) pointed to chromosomal defects. We were so scared. And if one of the babies had T13 it might have compromised the health of hte other, so we got an amnio for both. And everything was FINE. they had us scared for nothing. My boys are 5 months now and very healthy. So just because there are multiple markers doesn't mean it's chromosomal. Just focus on staying calm and remember that doctors can do amazing things these days. You and your babies are in my thoughts! "
