Antibiotics???

I have been ill for a couple of weeks now so today I finally gave in and went to see the doctor. He said I had tonsilitis and it should clear up on its own after two weeks (had for 2 already!). He said taking antibiotics during pregnancy is risky and he does not advise it. I am to wait a few more days to see if I don't start to feel better but if I don't or my symptoms worsen, which they have, I can then take the antibiotics.

Has anyone else had to take antibiotics. Has anyone heard they are not safe to take?

Please helps as now I'm worried about taking them.

" I have been on antibiotics twice during my pregnancy. Both my OBGYN and my high risk doc said the antibiotics are fine. I have had no problems from taking them. I think as long as they are the basic ones like amoxicillan and stuff like that, it's fine. Good luck. Feel better soon. "

" Cheers guys yes they are amoxicillin that have been prescribed. Shall I wait a few days like dr suggested or get them now. I am feeling pretty rough and my face and ears are killing me. I think that justifies worsening symptoms. What do you think? "

" Go ahead and get them. You will get better so much faster with the meds. "

" If it's "cilliin" you should be ok! I have had the flu for three weeks now and they won't let me take anything. I am allergic to the "cillins" so that is out of the question. Hope you feel better soon cuz being sick and getting no relief sucks monkey butt. "

" I think as everyone has said that it depends on the type of antibiotics. I was on them with my last pregnancy but they did wait until I absolutely needed them. I ended up with Pnemonia. Amoxicillian should be fine though. "

" I had Amoxicillin and was fine - but had a killer yeast infection! And you can't take diflucan while you are pregnant. I recommend the longest dose, not the quick cream. "

" Take a probiotic with them, that will help prevent a yeast infection. Hope you feel better soon! "
