I dont know if there are any true ways to induce labor but as for the baby dropping you will notice your baby bump sits lower. You will feel some relief off your diaphram, and more preasure on your bladder. You will feel like the baby is sitting in the birth canal. You will feel like when you walk that you want to hold the baby up... and you may feel like the baby will fall out at any time. With my daughter she dropped nearly 3 weeks befor my c section so 4 weeks befor her due date. Made for extreamly uncomfortable 3 weeks....
I have had experiance stimulating contractions by the way of the nipples but one other peep on this board said she tried it and while it gave her contractions they were irregular and not very productive. I have heard of women going for a ride on a swing set, long walks which they encourage while your in labor, and well all the other tricks IM sure you have heard of....

When my daughter dropped, I could feel her rolling in there, and felt intense pain in my pelvis and back. I now feel like I have a grapefruit between my legs. That was weeks ago, and it hurts to walk, my pelvis is painful. Also, my baby bump is flatter, it's not as round as it used to be.
I'm due today, and have tried to induce labor for the past couple of weeks because of how much pain I'm in. I have walked till I couldn't even stand anymore, sex, nipple stimulation, spicy food, bouncing up and down on an excercise ball, pineapple and housework, and nothing. Last dr appt on last weds, I was only a fingertip dilated still. The doctor I saw (not my doctor) said I wasn't even inducable because of that. Though this all causes contractions, none of them got regular, and I'm still very pregnant and in a lot of pain. I don't think there's any sure fire way of inducing labor. Debbie

I didn't feel the baby dropping. I didn't seem to have much restriction of my breathing or stomach so maybe just didn't notice.
I asked at the antenatal class about inducing labour. Apart from pitocin (obviously), the only advice was don't be constipated as apparently the physical blockage can slow things down. I think that eating fresh pineapple to get bromelain is a myth - you'd have to eat about 8 whole pineapples and even then I don't know how much of that would get to your uterus. Keep your bowels moving - brisk walk, curry, large bowl of All-Bran etc and if you go dangerously overdue, your dr will be able to give you pitocin which really does work :)

I had no idea that my baby had dropped, I only found out when the midwife told me. As for inducing pregnancy, I've heard heaps of theories but I've never heard any one talk about something that actually worked for them.

i knew when my belly dropped for my second. yeah the bladder really hurts now because baby turns alot. for me, i dropped earlier than my first. with my daugther, i dropped close to giving birth. with this one, i already dropped and am around 7 months. i tried to encourage labor early with my first one too, none of those things worked for me either. i had contractions that were measuring every hour. but when i got to the hospital, they still made me walk for an hour and a half. and had to eventually break my water.

my baby is currently on her way down, and I have had a lot of really bad pelvic pain, and head banging into my hips and stuff, but everyone is different so you might not feel anything or you might feel it a lot, but as far as I have been told about inducing labour things that hav worked are spicy foods, sex, orange juice and cod liver oil. =) good luck
