Why am i bleeding??

I am almost 11 weeks pregnant and am worried because i started bleeding bright red blood at 9.5 weeks off and on. The baby is fine... good heartbeat, growing, adequate amniotic fluid. But my doc is worried i will miscarry. I have been on bedrest for practically 2 weeks and back on oral progesterone. My doc reccommended a fetal internal specialist which i will see on Monday. He is worried there is a tear in the placenta. Can anyone relate to this ? And if it is a tear what does that mean?? Thanks for the help...
