Pregnancy Pet Peeves

Hi Ladies, I was wondering if pregnancy has made a new pet peeve surface in you?
I know I am more irritable than usual due to pregnancy but since this pregnancy has followed two losses I think it is worse than ever! I absolutely want to scream when I smell cigarette smoke. I am sooooo irritated by smokers. I feel like they are selfish and have no regard for the health of others. I think it is just dirty. ANd I feel like there is no escape as I can smell it in my car when someone goes by. And I will admit, I used to be a smoker. I quit with my first pregnancy, started a few months after- never, ever smoked in the house or in the car with my child or around children at all (not that I wasn't still putting it in the air, shame on me). When I was first pregnant with my second I quit again and the smell about made me vomit. Now I am 18weeks and want to scream at the people who polute the air I am passing to my baby and the air my children are breathing. I want to scream at people who smoke with their kid in the car or while waiting outside the elementary school. I live in Southern California and it is still hot, I don't have air conditioning in my car so the windows have to be down and I swear my car attracts cigarette smoke from a mile around! So ladies, what is your pregnancy pet peeve? Posted on 11/04/09, 10:11 pm |

One thing that really gets on my nerves is when people drive 10 miles under the speed limit... Trafic always gives me an anxiety attack but lately the people that drive way to slow (or fast) fo that matter really get on my nerves
THe other thing that really gets to me is something that bothered me befor but seems to be way way amplified is when your in the store and your walkng along and the person stops dead smack infront of you with no regaurd to whats going on behind them. ANd it really bugs me when there is no apparent reason to me... (Im sure they ave thier reason but I cant see it lol) If your gonna just stop dead stop at least see if your stopping INFRONT of someone and if you are step to the side of the walk way..... This problem gets A LOT worse with the holidays and the snowbirds (people who move to your state for the winter and leave when it gets to hot) Snowbirds think they own the place and it drives me absolutely nuts. I try to stay out of the stores which is hard on the holidays... I like the satisfaction of the actual purchase so mail order doesnt get it for me lol

ohhh anoughter one that kinda goes along with the whole shopping thing is when you look around at everyone in the mall or store and no one seems to be actually accomplishing anything productive.... and they just seem like they are in your way... ugh it drives me crazy.....
I will admit i am one of the reasons walmart stays open late lol... I go late when there are fewer people and the obsicals are boxes in the isles not people... and you little go carts are free from use

The one thing that drives me crazy is how everyone wants to touch your belly. I thought this would happen later in my pregnancy but NO. I was like 6wks pg and people were coming up and touching me. OK Im not a small girl either so I always really wanted to say is "you know you are just rubbing fat right?" Big girls have this thing about how their belly is a "no touch zone." The only belly I ever touched was my SIL and that was when she was ready to pop and the baby was kicking. Im just so surprised by how people (practically strangers) come and rub you like a Buddha. NO thank you!

oh I know anougher pet peeve....
My maternity pants.... I bough a ar of shorts from motherhood and loved them they were blue jeans and like common sence says the belly band is blue.... then I go to buy my pants for the winter and the belly band is NUDE!!! ok this may not metter to some I guess but ok... Im wearing blue jeans and my old plus size tops... some are border line getting to short when I lift my arms up the shirts rise too.... wel now instead of a blue band that matches my short/pants there is this nude band that makes it look like my skin is showing. I am a plus size girl and well frankly I dont show belly skin... nor do I want to draw attention to the belly skin and now I have this band that screams look at me!!! I have to go buy new shirts now that wont show my belly band when I raise my arms... ugh THe other ne is I went to babies r us today. Now Im on modified bed rest and one thing I have to do is not walk farther than from the car to the store door... So i go in hoping to do some shopping and browse and make a wish list and guess what.... NO ELECTRIC CARTS!!! They had a wheel chair but then I would have to have some one to push me... and my 5 year old surely cant do that.... I had to leave because I got throught 3 isle and couldnt breath I Was soooooo disappointed

I've never seen electric carts for use at any store here in the UK - I guess it's just in the US that these companies are so pregnancy-aware.
I found cigarette smoke really annoying too. Even though I don't think it harms the baby when you're outside I just thought it was really stinky. But I thought it was sweet how some smokers would look really apologetic and move away. I think the thing that really annoyed me most was how I couldn't reach things on high shelves or at the back of a display. I'm short but at the supermarket could stand on the bottom shelf or on tip-toe to reach things. With a big bump in front - no chance. Made me feel sorry for fat people! Oh and drivers not indicating when they're going to turn and I'm about to cross. This annoys me anyway but I think when you're pregnant you're really protective of the life within and a threat to you is a threat to it too so agree with BugBite - bad driving - very annoying!!

in regards to shopping: i usually do it after working and i dont make it to the store until around 7 or 7:30 on a wednesday. i thought that wednesday would be a great day to it as i dont move quickly and it would be less busy... its less busy but full of rude of people. im not asking for help or handouts, but when ive been stuck behind the same people for 5 minutes waiting for them to decide what kind of ramen noodles to choose- LET ME AROUND! STOP COMING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION FOR 5 SECONDS! WHEN I HAVE MY CART IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AISLE, I HAVE NO INTENTION OF LETTING YOU THROUGH ALONG WITH THE 3 PEOPLE BEHIND YOU!
thank you.

I can't stand all the advice you get. I understand people are trying to help, but seriously, butt out! I work with a woman who every time I walk in the door, she has some sort of tidbit for me....and then she rubs my belly. AGH!!!! She asked me about names the other day, and when i said we were going to wait until we knew what we are having to start deciding...she then proceeds to go through my entire family history to give me suggestions on family names to use. Thanks but no thanks...It's for people and reasons like that, as soon as we decide on a name, we are gonna act like we don't have one until she is born. I am just gonna pull the "we are gonna decide when she gets here" excuse. That way people will keep their opinions to themselves on our favorite names.
I also can't stand it when people whine. I am an athletic trainer so I don't tolerate whining well anyway, but good grief. I just want to smack the whiners up side their heads to shut them up right now.

I agree with Amber!!! The belly is a NO TOUCH ZONE!!! I am sooo annoyed when people ask "why are you so big" or "why is baby so big", Im a short girl...Im 5'2 or 5'3, baby has no where to go but out! Im not tall and I cant distribute the bigo belly like taller women can!
Ugh I just got that this morning and I keep telling myself, not to let it get to me but Im almost in tears! lol...And of course it was a taller woman who said it...bitch lol

I am with you on the cig smokers. My mom smokes (a lot) and I can not get how she has no regard for my health & the baby or my son. I know plenty of smokes who are respectful and take into consideration that no one wants to breath in their smoke. They don't smoke in the car, or their house. But then there is my mom, who thinks the world is selfish b/c they have banned smoking almost everywhere. I rarely visit her at her house b/c she insists on smoking and there is like this haze of smoke that constantly hangs near the ceiling. Her clothes wreak, and when we are out together, she get's POd at me, if I start fanning her cig. Tells me I am a PIA. CAn you imagine. ANyway the touching of the belly is another one, but don't seem to get it as much with my 2nd.
