Has anyone here been given a corticosteroid to help develop their baby's lungs? I am at risk of preterm labour and have been getting steroids evey 12 hours.

" Nope, but the best bet for helping your baby's lungs develop quickly, in the event of a pre-term birth.

How far along are you?

Hope everything goes well, and that those shots prove unnecessary! "

" i had a different shot, i got it twice ,24 hrs apart! i was in the hosp. @ 30 wks bc of preeclamsia so i know all about risks. they told me i would be lucky to make it to 34, but he was born at 32! now, they wont be fully developed from the shots, but it DOES help! those shots saved tripps life! " i had my daughter at 34 weeks and unfortunately did not have time to have the steroid shots..she came too quickly. they said that if i had the time and got the shots that my daughters lungs would have been much more develpoed and she would not have been on a respirator like she was. The shots DO HELP!! just keep in mind you are doing the best thing for the baby...good luck "

" My sister in law had a faulty uterus and she received the shots from 30 weeks until she delivered at 34. Her daughter was in the hospital for a week, but her baby before that came early and didn't survuve without the shots. The shots definitely made a difference. I hope you the best. "

" I did. Born at 29 weeks.
One was breathing well with a little oxygen and the other needed a respirator anyway. I imagine she wouldn't have made it at all without the shots. "

" My girlfriend birthed her daughter at 31 weeks. Little girl was on a respirator and in the hospital for weeks, but those shots really did help her lungs. I am sorry you are having to go through this, but they really are so knowledgeable these days and it sounds as though you are being given the best care they can. May God bless you and bring you through a healthy delivery x "
