When you had your baby did you treat your pets differently? I love my kitties/dog SO much, but people have me worried I will just toss them to the side once the baby comes. I don't feel that way now, but I've never had a baby so I don't know how I'll feel once he is here. :(

My cat used to be my baby... I still have her and love her, but I have much less time for her now. She doesn't get quite the pampering she used to either... I just don't have time (or the $ sometimes too)... It happens. She still comes to mama for loving after the kids go to bed every night. She knows I'm still here... just things are a little different.

I think Pamela's right.
Most of my friends and family have animals also- from stories i think cats react differently then dogs do. Most dogs become a play toy(( after awhile))- cats on the other hand- Most of them hate changes so its harder for them to adjust. Our dog- has been around kids of all ages since he was a puppy- he puts up with them. He understand kids/ babies come and go. I think hes going to have a hard time with this one. he thinks hes the center of attention know matter what. Our cat- On the other hand has been around some kids- but not alot. My nephew comes over and he hides until hes gone. Either way everyone in the house is going to have to make changes!!! Even you- you will find out what works best in your household!!!

Im a first time mommy too so I dont know what will happen, but I plan to include my dog as much as possible with this whole process. I will take the baby out for walks in the carriage with the dog (I havent figured out how to do that in the winter yet though) and I would like the dog to be comfortable having the baby around her at all times. I think there is plenty of love and time for everyone (with a little work).

My sister told me to bring the babies blanket home asap. (( the 1st one they get wrapped in)) it helps the dogs with the smell so its not a complete shock!!!

Since I got pregnant all my pets seem to know and act differently, but in a good way. My kitties are always fighting over who gets to lay on my belly when I'm watching TV. They just seem extra loving towards me. One we just got a few months ago as a stray someone just left outside. So tiny he should have still been drinking milk from his mother and the vet was suprised he lived. ANYWAY he always acted scared and now he is all over me like the other ones :P And my dog lays his head on my lap and I swear he's listening to the baby or something! I'm hoping it's a good sign that they are all acting like this and that they will love the baby right away :) I have just been an animal lover my whole life and have always had a pet. I just hope I can balance it all out so they all know I love them still!

I have a cat I've had for 13 years and he's fiercely protective of me. When we brought my son home, he was also protective of him. If he cried, the cat had to go make sure he was okay. If we are playing outside, the cat keeps watch nearby where he's playing. It's very sweet. Early on, my son told me that was HIS cat, and I havent argued. It was just a natural bonding. The cat seemed to know he was supposed to treat him gently, and never scratched or nipped him even when my son was being rough. To answer your original question, yes, I definitely pay less attention to the cat than I used to.
