Please help, advice needed for 5 year old

I am just at a loss of what to do. My 5 year old daughter started having mature body odor last month. She has no pubic hair or breast buds. Today I was doing the laundry and I found a pair of her underwear and I think she had spotting. I'm sorry if this is too much info...it could have been poo, it was brown and in the middle of her panties, not in the back. Also it didn't smell like poo. She told me it was poo poo, but really how would she know?
I took her to the Dr. last week, before I found the panties. The Dr did blood work and said that there is nothing abnormal with her hormone levels. I don't know which hormones she measured, but I know she also measured thyroid and diabetes. The Dr doesn't think we need to do anything since maybe its just diet (there have been no dietary changes) but if we feel better we can bring her in twice a year for a check. The thing is I don't know what to do. Our insurance is really really bad and we have reached the max we are allowed with her this year. Every visit and test will be coming out of my pocket. My Dr. is barely civil and doesn't want to answer any more of my questions. I am just looking for some advice because I am devastated. 1. Is it possible it was a period, if the hormone blood levels came out normal? 2. How concerned would you be about mature body odor in a 5 year old? 3. Would she have a period before breast buds or pubic hair? Thank you so much in advance. Posted on 09/18/09, 10:09 am |

I think you should call an endocrinologist instead of your regular doctor. endocrinologists are the best type of doctor for help in this area, explain your concerns about insurance and see if they will answer your questions about your daughters symptoms over the phone. Chances are that your regular doctor will refer you to an endo when you tell him about the spotting.
I know what it is like to have bad insurance, but you may have to bite the bullet and get more tests done in order to gain a piece of mind.

That was the first sign for my three year old, body odor. I would go with your gut and call and bug the hell out of your doctor or a endocrinologist until you are seen!

Hey...
Body order was very noticable at 4 for my daughter. One thing that made us go visit the endo was her height. She was well advance. At 4 her bone age was 6, at 5 it was 10.5 and at 6 it was 12. The hair came around age 5.5. I have not had to deal with her cycle...she has a full bush and underarm hair as well as some breast buds. She is almost 8 and we just got her second implant. Go with your gut feeling...I wished they would have started the implant eariler. Good luck. BTW...it is ok to feel overwhelmed. I still do! Deb
