I just found out thursday that my 5 1/2 year old daughter Gracey , was going through puberty , what they call precocious puberty. I took her to a pediatric endo. when she was 3 years old when I noticed that she was developing breast. They ran the tests, but told me everything was fine ,so I thought everything was fine until,Wed. night while giving her and her twin sister a bath that she had pubic hair, .... Shocked I took her to her doctor the next day, after looking over Gracey's file for about an hour and a half she comes in and tells me that she is going through what is called precocious puberty. Then they set up her an appt. to see the endo. in Lexington Ky for Ocotber??? Now is this not something serious? I finally ended up finding another one to take her to. She has underarm hair, pubic hair , mood swings, and breast, all that is left is her menstral cycle . Is it just me or are they not takeing this seriously enough or am I taking it too seriously Because She has been to the doctor for cramps, and they called it the flu. Plus she has what is called Nevus of Ota, which may appear during puberty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevus... , I just dont understand after all the appt. and all the doctor visits , diffrent problems how could they have missed this , I mean we are talking about 6 doctors that missed this. I didnt even let it cross my mind that she could be going through puberty , because the endo. told me that everything was fine. They didnt need to see her anymore . I just dont know what to do , I am beside myself about it all... I just dont understand really , I mean after 2 1/2 years of symptoms and taking her to the doctor everytime something came up how they could miss it. Because it all makes since now. I am scared because I dont know what to do or what to expect.
Sorry for the ramble , but I really dont know what to do and I am just freaking out just a little bit... But I am sorry if I did... Posted on 04/25/09, 05:04 am |

Hi, just wanted to let you know I am soooo sorry you have had so many problems with your daughters doctors. My 3 yr old also is going thru the same things. I don't know where you live but evidently close to lexington? There is a Dr. named Dr. Foster in Louisville if you don't mind the drive , he is wonderful, not only is he a great doc, he is on the research board for all of this and he takes all of your concerns seriously the doc. has called me on a sunday night before so it might be something to look into, but yes I would keep looking for doctors to help her with the problems. Good luck with everything

Hello,
I am really sorry to hear about the difficulties you have been experiencing. You have to push these Doctors. I can't believe they would be so dismissive. That is simply ridiculous. Obviously your child needs to get help ASAP. The sooner you treat Precocious Puberty, the better. Definitely try to find a new Doctor. I was diagnosed with Precocious Puberty at the age of 4. We always went to the Children's Hospital for my Lupron treatments. I have no idea what people do now (can they go to a Family's Doctor Office?). There was a specific department where they treated me. Perhaps there is such a thing in your local Children's Hospital. If you are able to contact them, they may be able to push along the tests/treatments for your child. I wish you the best. :)

I am so sorry you are going thru this with your daughter! I was in the same boat this time last year, but my daughter is older. You need to definitely contact a pediatric endocronologist (sp?) ASAP! I like the idea of you going to Louisville (my daughter was actually born there!) and there are some good doctors. You need to push, push, push these doctors! You may also want to look at the Magic Foundation website and there is some info there on Central Precocious Puberty. I actually spoke with a couple of people there. If your daughter has developed this far, do get moving on a treatment for her. My daugther is on a Supprelin implant and it has stopped her development (but she's already 5'2" at age 9!) Hang in there. I can tell you from our experience, you'll want a Bone Age Test, Blood Tests and a MRI. Good Luck!
