Supprelin Implant

Are the families here who have children diagnoses with Central Precocious Puberty that have had the Supprelin Implant done?

If so, how did the surgery go?

Were there any side effects initially/now?

How has your child done since receiving it?

My oldest daughter is 7 years old and was diagnosed with Central Precocious Puberty earlier this year. She has been receiving injections of Lupron Depot for 6 months. The injections are suppressing her hormones but we would like to opt for the injection to alleviate the stress, emotion/mental issues and the in general monthly appointments. She works herself up so much and I want to pursue a less invasive regimen of treatment. I am interested in any feedback. Good or bad.

Thanks in advance.

" My daughter, who is also 7, had the implant back in Sept. No side effects at all. The procedure is very easy but my little one hates needles so it took several to hold her do so they could numb the area. During the first 8 weeks, I noticed more hair and breast developing...I have NOT noticed a change in behavior...she still seems to have PMS all the time.

We have not had any consultation with endo..so I do not know whether or not it is "working". The doc said to wait 5 months before any test.

I am drained. I hope all goes well with you!

" Hi Debbie,

Thanks for replying. I am hoping that we can get things rolling on the implant. I have researched and talked to her docs who have indicated that since she's been on the injections, the implant would not provide many/any side effects we haven't already seen. I suppose that remains to be seen.

My daughter has had mood swings and change in attitude for sure. My hope is things improve greatly. I pray it so. I will hope to have more answers and a date for insertion of the implant in the next couple weeks.

I'm sorry you are drained. I pray things get better for you.

" My daughter turns 7 next month and had her implant today. She was suppose to have it done in the office last week but refused to give the surgeon her arm. She hadn't been getting the Lupron injections and hates needles. The surgeon was worried about her moving so wanted to reschedule with sedation. So, $800 later, we had it done in the operating room. Based on my research, the implant appears to be the least invasive with the least amount of side effects. Time will tell. "

" I hope all went well with the implant. We had ours about 2 weeks ago. Yuck! I can say we are a total B... the acne is increasing, the mood is really about the same. I would still prefer the implant over the shots I do not think she would do them she is 5 and really does not like needles any more than absolutely necessary. I think once a year is better for sure. " Hi DidaF,

I am interested in the side effects as well. I see you mentioned acne. What other things have you noticed? Anything with her appetite? My daughter's appetite is through the roof since getting put on the Lupron Depot shots. Its alarming but thankfully I've got plenty of experience with proper eating habits and healthier foods. Its hard though to hear her say just after eating "Mom I'm hungry again." I pray for are approved for the implant as her next treatment is just after the new year.

Thx for replying. "

" The appetitie is crazy but I am not sure if that is par for the course... PMS constant and growing at an alarming rate. My daughter eats very well and drives me crazy with I am hungry I have found apple juice is sometimes good at changing it to thirsty. However I believe with the growth we have expected and the PMS munchies that I remember the appetite has to be a little normal, she has grown 5 inches since June. I am hoping the appetite slows some after the first 6 weeks and we get back into control we have just balanced it with athletics - she plays bball, softball, and swims alot. Hope this helps I am still trying to figure out what to use on her face at age 5 I am just not sure of what is too strong. "

" My 8-year-old daughter had the implant two weeks ago. She was sedated for the procedure. I was nervous about that, but hind sight says it was a good call. She was drowsy for a few days, but that wore off in about 48 hours. The first week or so her PMS-like behavior subsided. She was happy, pleasant, playful, actually talked kindly to her younger sister, etc. However, we're now back to square-one with the PMS-like attitude.

Over the past two years I've developed a lot of anxiety and stress. I haven't been able to put my finger on WHERE it originated. However, now I think I know. During that one week of "no PMS-like behavior" from my daughter, I was happy and care free. But now that she's acting like that again, my stress and anxiety have gone off the charts again. Something's got to give! Are these meds suppose to help with that? We see her doctor again on May 20. I'm sure going to ask because I feel like a rubber band about to break. "
