Hi, Everyone. My 5 year old daughter is starting school in September. She has been dealing with all this for over a year now.I didn't send her to preschool because with everything going on I didn't know what to expect from everything. But I have been mentioning to her about starting school in September and she will sit there and give me a stare and says I'm not going. I don't know if she is just scared or what. I mean I know it is going to stink her missing school 1 every 21 days but I can't help that. That is how often she gets her injection. Her attitude though has gotten better she is less emotional with alot of things. But when it comes down to it she don't like change at all. Or I don't know if it's because she knows that she will look different than other kids. I don't know. Can anyone suggest how I can help her get excited again about going to school?

hi,
I have been teaching kindergarten for 20+ years. My best advice it to stop talking about it for a month or 2. Let her forget about school and enjoy her summer. About 3-4 weeks before school starts bring it back up again in a very positive manner. Keep the conversations short and very positive. Most school are open to visits before school starts. Call them and set up a time for your daughter to visit before evryone else. this will help her feel more comfortable. alot of children have a hard time leave home for the first time. Be positive and she will adjust. Tell your child that "All children come in different shapes and sizes and everyone is a unique individual". My daughter is almost 9, she is 5'2" tall. She looks like she is 12 or 13. she has always been bigger than everyone else but, she has many friends. As long as your child has a positive outlook about sheself she will be sucessful. If you are concerned about her selfestime work on it now so that she is comfortable in school. All children miss school every now and then for this and that. Just let her teachers known when she will be out so they can give you anything that she missed. again keep it positive.
