i have an extremely irregular period...so when i do get depressed, down in the dumps, intrusive thoughts, lethargic, fatigued..i don't know whether or not i'm going crazy, or if it's just PMS. I have had irregular periods for as long as i can remember. I used to take birth control (alesse, yasmin) but stopped due to side effects. ever since then i have been so off-balance when it comes to my period. i get it every threee months, then i'll spot two weeks, not for two weeks, then spot again, get cramps, etc. it's actually quite ridiculous. right now i've had WHAT I THINK might be pms for about a week .. irrational thoughts, pushing away loved ones, sad, etc. and now i'm cramping, and had minor spotting earlier. i really don't know what to do and would just like some support.

Hello there - have you seen a doc about this to rule out conditions like PCOS? If you have already ruled out a gynae condition I find that stress, worry and undereating (usually all due to the PMS related severe anxiety I get) play havoc with my cycle. I've never been on birth control pills (and I've never been regular) but friends of mine who have come off birth control often tell me it takes months for their cycle to become regular again. I know what you mean though about not knowing whether your symptoms are hormonal or you're going crazy... My periods are so all over the place I seem to just be 'normal' when I'm bleeding now...

I can relate to the irrational thoughts and pms, usually I get depressed, and very irrational during two weeks prior to my period. It helps me to simply be upfront and honest with my loved ones e.g. partner, and let them know that its the time of the month where they should not take me seriously for much of what I say, because usually I want to make quick decisions based on faulty thinking and later would regret....i can be hurtful with my words, so I warn them upfront that I feel like crap and not take any of what I say personally...my boyfriend is very understanding....
I was recommended some organic tea of rasperry leaf, you can find it at most farmers market type of store... e.g Henry's. I took it this month and it helped to reduce the irrational thinking, the tea helps to get rid of the extra water retention during pms. However, since I have a very sensitive stomach and can't drink strong tea, I can't keep on taking it :(....

thank you both so much for the advice.
I have seen the doctor about this before and he simply said that some people have irregular periods and basically just to deal with it (he was a man lol). I have an appointment with my female gyno at the beginning of november so I will ask her about PCOS and see if maybe that is the underlying cause. I am glad that I'm not the only person out there who is experiencing this. It is actually such a relief to even talk about it. I talked to my boyfriend about it and basically just tried to explain everything and that I'm really just not myself right now and he seemed very understanding about it. I will try the organic tea and let you know how it works for me. Thanks again! :)
