I'm happy to see there is a support group for this because I need to vent to people that actually understand what I have been going through. I have been suffering with this for YEARS! The older I get the worse it gets. I think I have maybe 1 good week a month. It has gotten much worse since I had my babies. They are 4 and 5 years old. Let me go down the list of my symptoms: 1) Migraine - like clockwork, every month, over my left eye - lasts up to 7 days, pure misery. 2) Exhausted - completely depleted of any drop of energy, lethargic, sleepy, lazy, good for nothing. 3) Allergies - When I am PMS-ing my allergies kick in, sneezing, runny nose, etc. 4) Vaginal itching - like a yeast infection, need to use Vagisil, itchy, irritated, burning, makes wearing a pad or tampon a living Hell. 5) Depression - Crying, despair, overwhelmed by life, can't deal with anything. 6) Heavy bleeding - need to wear a tampon + 2 pads, get up & the blood just gushes out. 7) Aches & pains - everything hurts, every sore part of my body that I can usually deal with becomes magnified by 500 times making it unbearably painful, take lots of pills, pamprin, ibuprofen, excedrin, aleve, etc. 8) Difficulty sleeping which includes night sweats and frequent trips to the bathroom which adds to the fact that I am completely exhausted & fatigued. 9) Add to this all a 4-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl with Down Syndrome plus a husband that just doesn't get it, not to mention no family of my own, no help, & it is a recipe for the sanest person to go over the edge. I have tried many things. Serafim (another name for Prozac) was really helpful for a few years, it really helped a lot, but then it just stopped being effective. The heavy bleeding started after I had my 2nd baby. I've gotten lots of relief by having a Mirena (IUD) put in. The Mirena has helped with the heavy bleeding and it has cut my migraines from 7 days to 3 days so I am grateful for that. But all the other symptoms prevail. I am to the point where I just want to get through menopause & get rid of it because I am so tired of the suffering. I am 45. I must confess that I have even thought of asking for a hysterectomy to just be done with it all. I am so sick and tired of PMS. I'm too old for birth control pills which is why I opted for the Mirena. I LOVE my Mirena!!!!!!!! It has made life bearable for me over the past year. But I am still miserable with this PMS. Is there anything new out there? Any advice from my sister sufferers?

I know what you mean about having 1 good week. Have you tried talking to another doctor for a second opinion? I don't think you should be suffering like you are. The heavy bleeding sounds serious.

I definately understand how you feel.It seems the older I get the more I am suffering also..The cramps and all over body pain are more than I can handle.Alls I want to do is lock myself in my room in complete darkness and silence.Sometimes my hate and anger are so strong I could rip someone apart with my bare hands...My doctors have newly prescibed me all kinds of pills but the possible side effects are horrific and I havent dare to try them.I live on pms pills every four hours,as soon as I start feeling crappy or out of control. When your kids go to bed at night, try a nice warm bath and a good book to relax you..the stores also carry heat & pain patches you could wear to bed.If you have a regular doc I am sure he can prescribe something ,if you dare the side effects.Good Luck and Many hugs xoxoxoxo

Well, the Mirena has helped a lot with the bleeding. I still bleed but I only need like a pantyliner or pad & the duration is longer. Last month I had a D&C to have a benign polyp removed. We are hoping this will stop the bleeding completely & I will have no period which is what should be with the Mirena. But I did get a period & have been bleeding lightly now for about a week. All the other symptoms remain, including the migraine. Although, the symptoms have improved with the Mirena they are still bad enough to make me be here typing this. The frustrating thing for me is that the good week that I have is really good. While I am in that "good mode" I think to myself how nice it would be if I could feel like this all the time. I feel like I can take on the world, nothing bothers me. I'm happy & in a good mood, creative and energetic. I can tackle anything. I always think "Why can't this just last all the time?" I'm so tired of taking pills. I take so much Excedrin Migraine because its the only thing that works. During my PMS & migraines I take the excedrin, pamprin, prozac, an allergy pill, at night its Advil PM so I can sleep. When I am in my "good mode" I don't need to take anything. Anyone else have the same thing?

i tryed the depo-provera injection,it lasts 3 months and your periods become lighter and normally stop.I didnt go for my last injection as i thought id let my body have a rest and i dont like really messing around with tablets, pills ect.. but since my periods have come back so has the pmt. i get sore breasts, backache, aches down tops of my legs and really bad mood swings. my partner doesnt understand even though i try my best to explain to him that its not his fault. He says that i act strange, tearful, quite, last night he even asked if i were haveing an affair!I get so down and low that i get thoughts that everyone i love would be better off without me and to just go and drive my car into a brick wall. i start arguments at work just to get frustration out of me. Are there any other treatments or help out there?

I can relate to what a lot of what you say. You just reminded me that I too get allergies right before I start and often say to my boyfriend that I think I am coming down with a cold. I think this affects immune systems. Then it just lets up and I am fine again.
My mother suggested I get a hysterectomy as it will at least stop the bleeding and possibly some of the insanitiy(?), though that seems to come from the ovaries. Today I thought, for the first time, about the possibility of an IUD. My friend has one and said it has made her periods more bearable. Some have hormones and some do not. Hers does not. I am too old for birth control as well (43) and they wacked me out in other ways. I know this sounds stupid in a way, but I am sexually active and am not using birth control. I am just this past year missing the fact that I never had children (though I had two chances when younger and blew it and then miscarried.) I am not trying super hard to get pregnant but I am not trying not to either. Women are having babies in their 40's and beyond and have for centuries actually. Secretly, I would not mind the break from all this crap of PMS though there would be other challenges. Two of my friends said they had not had a period for a year after their births. But I fear my PMS would just come back and it would make me a very stressed out mother. I have also heard that some women who have children get better with all that as a result. I am planing to take the First Response Fertility test (three days into a cycle) to see what my FSH is doing to help determine ovarian reserve. This way I feel I will also know if I am going to hit menopause a little sooner than I might think. I know I am in perimenopause for sure by now and it scares me because as Suzanne Sommers says, this is when women are most susceptible to cancers and growths. See my other post about all the things I have tired and plan to try yet or am just starting to try. There may be something in there that helps you. Good luck! I feel for you!

I would like to suggest taking a Goody Powder for the migrain. Take one powder at the FIRST sign of the migrain. I have to take Goody Powder, 1 week before my period and 1 week after my period to get rid of the migrain before it has time to "set in". Try it if your non allergic to asprin. I promise you'll be glad you did! Hope that helps you as much as it does me! (*(*HUGS*)*)
