I don't know if I have PMDD but the more I read about it the more it makes sense EXCEPT that my PMDD lasts 3 weeks (in different degrees) and my good days start mid-period.
I live in rural China and am trying to self diagnose. Does that sound possible? Also the doctor has put me on Prozac (he thinks I am severely depressed)...any positive or negative feelings about it? thanks Posted on 10/18/09, 06:10 am |

I agree, the best way is to track your symptoms. I also have symptoms that start about 2.5 weeks prior to menstruation. A book I read that was helpful was called The PMDD Phenomenon by Diana L. Dell. i have not found a miracle cure, but meditation, exercise and understanding the disease has helped me.

Hadn't I been in touch with my great boss at the emerency services (an MD) I'd have never thought of my PMS being anything else than just bad PMS.
I told him once when I started over on Remeron for depression that my seasonal affective disorder seemed to be genetic and he suggested I mentioned it to my family-doctor to have PMDD higher up on the list of diagnoses. My family doctor disagreed though and said in all basics that in Norway there isn't anything called PMDD as diagnose. Both the psychologist I've got because of the paramedic job and the "second opinion" by the supervisor agrees that PMDD is a probable diagnose. The fact is: with contraceptives and mild antidepressants (or Efamol alone) I've got much more control of my premenstrual syndrome. Contraceptives and antidepressants work best together for me, but the cheaper alternative is Efamol which I can take alone even if it is expensive enough... All we can do is to settle with the help that is. If prozac makes no difference, consider trying another treatment. Good luck! Hill
