So I am going on a date tomorrow with a guy I met online....yeah, I got "desperate" and decided to try online dating after my psychologist made the suggestion. I met this amazing guy...so he seems so far anyways. So tomorrow we are getting together, hanging out, I have warned him that I have baggage. But I am so nervous.
Nervous that he isn't what he seems. But most nervous that things might actually work out. That someone might get close. Someone might make it inside these huge walls I've built up. Anyone have any experience, wise words, bright ideas? Thanks :) Posted on 11/05/09, 10:11 pm |

I look at dates as adventures. Don't look at it as the possible life-mate meeting time, look at it as something that might have a really funny story. Takes the pressure off.
I had one date who was a used car salesman, and he said he'd give me a car if I went out with him again. Even in that moment, I thought "Wow this is gonna make a hell of a funny story!" No expectations, other than to have a new adventure!

Yes please give credit to yourself for going outside your comfort zone and this is a big success without even knowing the outcome of the date. Living life is our goal. Living with ease at sometime but definely in the present embracing the uncertainty of the moment.
Long time meditating Monks define happiness as living totally in the present embracing the uncertainty like you were on an island and every plant is a new species. Monks say that is how we face each moment. So compliment yourself and relax and just be present. You will look and think your best if you are present. Observe and listen and your personality will take over and words will flow. He is nervous too. So you know him from chatting, so review the conversations and pick a topic you feel most comfortable that he has interest in. Good Luck

I think thats wonderful, that you have met someone and that your getting together! I agree, just try to keep it light and fun, laugh and enjoy yourself! Dont go into it with any expectations, just allow yourself a good time out, and whatever comes of it comes of it! There are a lot of weirdos on these online dating sites, but also a lot of real, genuine people looking for a life partner.. and you will be able to tell if hes a jerk or a nice guy pretty fast! I'll leave you with a little bit of positivity... I met my husband on an online dating service, and we've been married for years now, and he's the most wonderful man in the world, and the best husband ever! (yes, Im biased! ) SO good luck, and have fun!

Thanks for the wise words everyone :) It went really well, he is a really sweet kind respectful guy....and really good looking to boot! Lol. So the pressure is off a bit now that the initial meet is done.
Now comes the tougher part of letting someone in. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there :)
