This is a book by Daniel Siegle head of the mindful institue and co director of the UCLA Mindful awareness research center.
MRI imaging reveals ways that using mindfulness actually makes our wellbeing better. When we use mindfulness it engages the mid pre frontal cortex which regulates: body regulations, attuned communication, Emotional Balance, response flexibility, empathy, Insight, Fear Modulation, intuition,, morality. Naming our thoughts and emotions has shown to improve wellbeing. By saying an intrusive thought is guilt or fear or anger or judgement helps tamp down its effect. Two current therapies using mindfulness is ACT or acceptance therapy and DBT. Accepting our conditioning and staying present is the road to well being. This book gives concrete details that mindfulness can transform your life. It is not something magical but science. When you use mindfulness many more neural pathways are engaed and the plasticity of the brain lets the brain adjust and heal. Theres alot more in this book if anyone is interested. Dare I ask what the Title of the book is? Or have I dissociated again and blocked it out?

Wow, I forgot to give the name of the book. Disassociation I guess. It is The Mindful Brain.
I thought of another study researchers did with images and time. Images were shown to individuals all the same then an odd item was inserted. Individuals spent far more time analyzing the odd image. Our brains file data about how to walk so we can do it in our sleep. Our minds work so we can be on auto pilot. Ever drive somewhere and then forget how you got there . You remember no lights or intersections. Being mindful means facing every situation with the uncertainty of what could happen. You are in the moment of now. You could start to change your life by applying these skills for ten minutes a day. You can learn to focus your mind to help you heal and be happy. Science now has confirmed a apth. These skills are learnable and all can benefit.

Okay, thanks Wanderer. Relieved to know that it was not me who dissociated. Sorry you had, if that be the case.
I do not subscribe to the belief that trauma is all in the head, and therefore do not believe--such as I recently learned about hypnotherapy that recovery from PTSD is just a matter of changing the way one thinks.Despite the fact that the brain is the master control center. I "do," however believe that, because the mind is greatly affected by trauma, I do not reject cognitive therapy--but only as "part" of the whole solution. In particular, and based on the limited info I have, the theory of brain (or neuro)-plasticity does seem to hold some promise; however only as a compenent to the overall solution. I also do not agree with exposure therapies, such as EMDR, EFT, etc. I do agree that acceptance (and understanding) of the condition is very important. Can't afford to buy any books right now, but will put this on my book list for future consideration. Thank you Wanderer
